Hi lostintranslation! This is one thing that I've had the hardest time finding. Where are you located? Are you interested in Manhattan only? I found a few in the outer boroughs as well. I started my search and finally a relative offered to help.

I'm using Madame Paulette on the upper west side (60s and 2nd).  They are a bit expensive but so far so good!  I just had my second fitting and everything looks/fits great.  I paid approx $500, but that includes clean+steam.  The actual seamstress work was around $300ish.  Hope this helps!

Also, there have been a few threads on this topic.  Do a search and you should find a few more ideas.

wow, i thought madame paulette was very very expensive.  $300 for the seamstress sounds like the going rate.   Does the $300 include a bustle?

it all depends on what you're doing to the dress.  bustle was $75 for me but my dress is pretty straightforward.  the biggest expense was the hem which ran approximately $175.

    Hello there,

I highly recommend Ann Hamilton, who used to make her own wedding gowns.  She is charging me $700 for 5 fittings, major changes to my dress (inserting several layers of soft tulle, changing the neckline), a shrug, and a veil.  She extremely professional and a real artist, and really listens to what you want.

    Good luck!

My seamstress is on 29th between 2nd and 3rd. She isn't doing my wedding gown but her store is absolutely filled with them. She's a very sweet Turkish lady. Store is Senel, Inc., 207 E 29th. Phone is 212-683-5373. Her English isn't as good as her tailoring so I'd recommend going there over calling her if you have a lot of questions.
