We are in a very tight budget. We are moving away and saving every penny for the move. We have even agreed to not buy any christmas gifts this year for anyone. Its his bday on friday and he’s actually having heart surgery tomorrow. I just want to get him or make him something very special. I’m usually very creative but with everything going on, I haven’t been able to think clearly lately. So I need the bees help 🙂
I am an artist so I can easily do something creative. Thank you inadvance for any suggestions!

@Silly_love: Will he be home from the hospital on his birthday? It depends on what surgery he is having.
You could get a heart shaped candy mold at Michaels and make him his very own heart shaped candy or jello.
You could also make him a personalzed heart shaped pillow to use for chest support when he coughs or takes a deep breath if his chest is being opened. He would probably be provided with one from the hospital but you could make it personal by your choice of fabric- plaid flannel, character print from a favorite game, TV show or movie?

Does he like coffee? Is there a coffee shop in the hospital? You could get him a gift card and present it with a pic of a latte with a heart design in the foam.

One of my favorite gifts I’ve made for my husband was a photo album/ scrapbook for upcoming events. I’m doing another one this Christmas with 12 date nights, one for each month. So for example I found a local business where you take a painting class and enjoy wine and beer. I’ll do that page with appropriate graphics and leave blank spaces for pictures when we actually go do it. It gives him a bunch of things to look forward to doing and lets me spread out spending money on him. We usually enjoy experience gifts more then things so it works out well.

@Silly_love: I made one of these for my SO last year, and he loved it. For some of the cards, I added pictures of us instead of a reason I loved him.

@julies1949: I love the pillow idea! He needs a valve repaired. Its going to be an invasive keyhole surgery, so its not as bad as a full open heart surgery. Its a smaller insission and less risk of infections and less rcovery time.

@bellenola: I love this idea too! I think this idea with the previous bee’s idea of the heart shape pillow is perfect. Thank you so much!

My Sweetie lives far, we agreed the same for Christmas. BUT his Bday is on Christmas. I still wanted to give him SOMETHING for Christmas and his BDAY.
For Christmas I’ve been emailing him everyday some kind of letter, (12 days of Christmas my true love gave to me) here what I did so far.
Day 1: Letter declaring my love
Day 2: Letter letting know a little more about me… (which most he knew)
Day 3: I sang 3 songs to him and recorded on my phone
Day 4: Letter to Santa saying Thanks for my special gift (my sweetie)
Day 5: 5 facebook status (we prefer not to be gushy on FB so I made an over top “status” I threaten to post!
I haven’t figured out the rest, but some ideas is sending lots of selfies (he always asking for pictures. I hate taking pics of myself. Of course all of them are clean!)… Also he asked if I’ve practice writing my name with his last name, I plan to practice and send him a picture of a paper that I practice my signature.
He LOVES IT!!! I work Graveyards and so he wakes up to a new email every morning!!!

I made my fiancé the “52 reasons why I love you” gift out of the deck of cards for our first year anniversary. His exact words were “Baby, this is the best gift anyone has ever given me”. Melted my heart. He opened the gift over skype and I can tell some of the cards he read were getting him emotional. I love that I can bring out that side of him! 🙂
For his birthday this year, I made him “Open when…” envelopes. Google open when envelope gift, and you’ll get the idea of what it is. Basically, it’s a bunch of envelopes that state a specific time that he should open it, and when he does, inside is a hand written card/letter from me. For example, some of mine are:
Open when… we’ve had a fight.
Open when… it’s the night before our wedding.
Open when… it’s my birthday.
Open when… you’re feeling stressed.
Open when… you’re sick.
Open when… you’re missing me. (We’re long distance)
Open when… you’re feeling naughty. 😉
Open when… it’s New Year’s Eve.
My fiancé has mentioned many times how he loves gifts like this more than any kind of material gift I buy him, so I try to look for great, personalized, home made gifts a lot.

@Diamond84: That is a brilliant idea!
@Silly_love: I’m giving my FI some coupons for back scratches. I know it sounds crazy, but he absolutely LOVES them, and I don’t. So I’m pretty sure he will LOVE them. Maybe you and your SO have something similar you could turn into a present?
