Hi!
I have seen prices from $75.00 to $3500.00. It all depends on what you want to get.
for a decent makeup and hair artist you are looking to pay about $200.
I got mine for 35 (hair) 25 (make up) and 45 (trial) and she's coming onsite. When I planned my budget that's what I thought was reasonable, but most I saw were about double.
Mine is $250 for trial + day of. I almost had a heart attack, but it was cheaper than others I've found (L.A.).
I am looking in Orange County as well and the most common prices I have seen is $65 for Bridal Party makeup, $125-$150 for Bride makeup, $65 for Bridal party hair and about $80 for Bride's hair. They charge for consultations, usually about half of the actual price. I have noticed that if you get a makeup/hair person combo, it is a lot cheaper but they book up fast so look now if you can. Also, if the makeup/hair person comes to you, they usually want at least 3 people to work on so its not a waste of their time. Hope this helps!
I am paying $290 for on location hair and airbrush makeup for myself- this includes a trial at the studio.
Bridal party hair is $60 per person (which I am paying for) but they can add on airbrush makeup for $39.
I think I had a minor panic attack when I started to add it all up but I want to make sure I look my best.
NOTE: there are DEFINITELY more affordable options, especially if you are willing to go to them. To me, having them on location and capable of doing hair and makeup (especially airbrush) was really important.
I think the cost really depends on where you are located and what kind of services you're looking to have. For example on location service, airbrushing, and other factors can cost more.
For Southern California (the region I primarily serve), I've seen rates both lower and higher than my own, and I do offer discounts if a bride books her bridal party members through me as well. I also work with brides' budgets because every bride deserves to look her best on her special day, and money should really not hinder that in any way.
If you take a look at rates around your area, and let the artist you contact know how many services you'll be booking with them, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who's willing to work something out for you. Good luck!
i'm getting married in northern california, and i've seen rates for bridal hair and makeup from $200 (someone who did it as a side business) and up. waaay up (i.e. $400, $500, $800). the cost was definitely a shocker, and i ended up going way overbudget.
I had my makeup done in S. Cal in Long Beach. It was $50 for hair and $50 for makeup for me and $25 each service for my bridesmaids. The cost has gone up since but its now only $75 hair and $75 makeup for brides and $50 hair $50 makeup for bridesmaids.
If you are looking in the OC area PLEASE check out Andrea with Something Blue Stylists (www.somethingbluestylists.com) She is who I used for my wedding and I worked with her again in 2 other weddings I was in after mine. She is amazing and travels to you for a minimal cost (like $25) and does a fantastic job. She was the most inexpensive I found and I was so so happy with everything she did.
Hello BlueLotus! when you budget for hair and makeup for yourself and maybe your family/bridal party members, I do strongly suggest putting things into perspective. What I always say is it should be proportional to how much you spend on your dress and the photographer! I don't mean like spend the same amount of money, but just as an example, if you are spending $3000 on dress, maybe $500-1000 on shoes/veil and accessories, another $5000 for photography (this is SoCal we're talking about...) and maybe another $1000-2000 for a decent videographer and then weigh those in to help you decide how important your hair and makeup vendor is.
When I was a bride, hair and makeup was probably one of the most important vendors, and less important than accessories or videography. This is my personal choice - so my budget reflects a priority in hair and makeup!
Keeping in mind that OC/Irvine is a very expensive and competitive region (compared to a small town somewhere...) so realistically, expect to pay between 200-600 for hair and makeup for the bride!
In general (not just because I'm also a makeup artist and photographer, I swear) I believe that if a couple spends that much money on photography, dress and accessories, it doesn't make any sense to expect that hair and makeup would be $100 or $200. I mean a great photograph depends on a great photographer in addition to exceptional styling (hair, makeup and wardrobe!!!!)
Mine is $250 for hair+makeup, plus a trial ($150). They were nice enough to come to my venue just for me as I don't have a bridal party.
Thanks! That's all very helpful. I will need them onsite, specially since I am not from there and I really don't want the hassle of driving around. Paying a little extra is definitely worth saving that time and being relaxed.
I am looking for just my makeup and hair, no bridesmaids. I am Pakistani so I found a couple people for makeup one of which is charging $100 for consultation (3hrs consultation) + $360 (3-4 hrs on site for touch-up and makeup change for evening)...still looking for hair.
If anyone has names and recs for hair that would be helpful.
Thanks
I sent you a referral via the message system! :) I hope it helps!!
Hair + Make Up for bride plus 7 bridesmaids is running me $125 each. I am looking at a total of $1000 for all 8 of us....
just like some of the other people said... I think here are the major contributing factors to price..
1. location - bigger cities will have higher prices then smaller ones
2. On-location services - when they travel to your location the cost goes up
3. Stylist/Artists experience - stylist with more experience will charge more then a newer stylist.
4. Airbrush, lash extensions, hair extensions - these services are not always offered and the stylists/artists that do, usually charge extra for these services.
Keep all these things in mind when looking at prices
I agree with JulieMD. NYC average cost of H & M is a lot higher than let's say somewhere like Delaware, where my cousin spent $70 for both H & M.
A makeup artist friend of mine works for Henri Bendel(NYC) and she charges $500 for makeup alone (day of).
See what your artist provides with that price tag.
i had my make up trial for $65, and i will pay $130 on the day of on location.. my hair do will cost me $125 and $90 for the girls, but this includes travell and gratuity... so i guess it is pretty cheap for Boston....
I'm in the LA area (So Cal) and my make-up trial was $50, make up for the day of will be $65 and hair might be about $80-$100, don't know if she is charging me for the trial though.
Just as an FYI, I looked around a lot also, and I would say that anything $150 and under is reasonable for make-up.
My makeup artist and the updo stylist will be traveling to my hotel - $150 for makeup, $65 for trial. $120 for hair and $65 for trial. Pricey, yes - but worth it I hope. I'm terrible with makeup and I want to be sure my acne scars are covered. The hair and makeup are $65 each for the maids.
Well I am in Southern California too and hair and make up are $250-$350 each
Some free lance people are less for $150 each or so, but generally when they come to you or you go to a top salon it is in that higher price range in Southern California
i think hair&make-up for bride runs around $200-$300 and then $100-$150 for BMs. going to a salon (vs. having the artist go to your hotel room) might be a bit cheaper, but i'm not sure.
I'm from western MA and I'm paying 50 for hair and 20 for makeup, and 40 for a trial.. Depending on where you are, like the others said, it definitely doesn't have to be super expensive to be good quality..
I am paying $350. That includes trial and the wedding day. My wedding is in Puerto Rico, and the hair/make up artist will go to the hotel to get me ready.

Hello to all the bees...
I am so unfamiliar with the price ranges for makeup and hair that I feel like I will over pay...
Please Help----how much is bridal makeup and hair cost? what are the ranges? Are consultation/trials usually free or there is a charge? If so what should I expect for that? All this in the southern california (irvine/OC area)
All your input will be very helpful!
Thank you,
BlueLotus
