Barefoot Contessa had an episode recently where she "set up" the house for some friends that were returning from a long vacation. She bought some fresh flowers, made macaroni and cheese and left some sweet treats in the fridge. Ya know, cause when you come home there's no food in the house and who wants to go out to the grocery store first thing. You could do a little adaptation to that. Make a casserole that all they have to do is pop into oven, maybe a pint of ice cream or home made cookies.
Aww you guys are so nice to your friends. My friends and I, however, love playing tricks on each other. So I was about to tell you to decorate their car or to cover their bed in something totally annoying but harmless (like... cottonballs?)
I think having some food ready for them is a great idea. This is kind of random, but if their pet is big (like, not fish) then you could get a little shirt from the pet store and decorate it saying, welcome home Mom and Dad or something, that would be cute.
I love the idea of having food waiting for them!!! That is awesome!
Would love to dress up the pets but they are actually cats, and they won't let me come near them unfortunately!!
What about having a couple beer mugs/pilsner glasses out for them to see, and say in your note that the beer's in the fridge?
My mom had gone to our house and just cleaned for us. She washed our sheets and towels and straightened up. We left the house in shambles so it was nice to come home to! She left a bottle of champagne and glasses on the counter and note saying to drink it as we're opening gifts! It was such a nice thought and I love that she did it!
I need some more ideas for my newlywed best friends. They coming back from their wedding from their home country and I want to surprise them by decorating their room/ car..
Please suggest something.
Thanks.

Hi Everyone -
I am petsitting for friends who are off on a 3 week honeymoon overseas (I'm so jealous, I could never afford that, let alone get the time off work!). I want to do something cutesy for them for when they return home, a nice card and something (not sure what) on the counter so they'll see it when they walk in.
Normally I would buy a bottle of red wine, two glasses, and maybe something else, but they don't drink wine! They are beer drinkers, and while I could certainly buy a 6 pack and tape a card to it, for it to be cold and enjoyable right when they get home it would need to be in the fridge, and I am not sure they'd notice it right away.
Does anyone have any suggestions? So far my best thought is to buy two 6 packs of beer, have one on the counter with a card, and a second chilled in the fridge (so if they think, man this would be nice - and put it in the fridge to get cold, they find chilled ones as an additional surprise!).
My other thought is to get some sort of book for newlyweds, maybe a cookbook, and have that out.
Any thoughts, suggestions? Or critique on my two ideas? Thanks!!
