I want to propose to my girl in September around her birthday so I’m on the hunt for the engagement ring.
We have casually talked about what she likes in an engagement ring so I have a general idea of what she is looking for: moissanite stone, double prongs, white gold, no plain rings, round side stones and she wants the band to match exactly. I wanted to go custom but I don’t think the ring would be here in time and have heard that a lot of jewelers don’t work with moissanite. So I have looked on the moissanite co website and am considering wed635, wed609b, and wed652 for the settings.
I know she wants a round-ish stone because she thinks square stones make her size 6 fingers look fat which leaves me deciding between a forever brillant oval or forever brillant old european cut. Which do you think is better? I don’t want anything too yellow and would like it to not be questioned by everyone or assumed that it’s fake.
Could I see real time photos of any moissanite ovals or old european cuts?

I adore oval stones. They will deffo make her fingers look slimmer if that is what she’s going for.

I have an oval engagment ring, real diamond, and it actually looks larger than it is. Ovals look like the have more carat weight than I regular diamond.

I’m looking at a ~1.25ct size in the moissanite.

I like the wed609b out of the ones your looking at… its gorgeous!!

@Xenon54: I have a color enhanced (Amora) Old European Cut 3ct moissy. Custom setting.
I love this cut! It’s so amazing & dreamy 🙂 but I will say that if your GF isn’t comfortable with at least a little bit of warmth (slight yellow tint) then it might not be for her. Here is my ring, nonetheless. 🙂 (the first pic my stone is a little dirty in, sorry bout that)

Here is a picture of my OEC moissanite next to an OEC diamond. The diamond is on the left (an H color, so more white) & the moissy is on the left (J color, so a little more tinted).

Also, the OEC will show a little more color than a round brilliant, fyi. I don’t know anything about ovals showing color or not, but as far as moissanite goes, round brilliant shows the least color. And even a round forever brilliant can be buttery yellow in certain lights (mostly in indirect sunlight for me).

Kat the moissanites you posted don’t look too yellow to me. I’m talking more about a MNOP colored stones. I can’t even tell the difference between the diamond and moissanite.

My SO is getting my moissanite ring custom made but trust me if you go that route it will NOT get done by September. I have been waiting almost 8 months for mine. The jewlwer was fine with working with moissy, he even ordered it for us, but he did seem to think that we should go for a small size. I don’t know if that is just waht he thought would look good on me, if he thought that would show the color less, or what.
I like wed 635

I’ve got size 6 fingers and was trying to decide between round and oval. My FI decided we should go oval and I’m so happy we did. The oval looks a lot better on my stubby fingers than a round does. I’d encourage you to go oval if your girlfriends hands look anything like mine.

I have short fingers too and personally, thin bands elongate the hands.
How about this one? just consider a smaller center stone. Maybe 1.5 ct will do.

@Xenon54: How exciting that you’re getting ready to propose! Congrats! I would suggest you take a look around the betterthandiamond.com forums, there is a ton on moissanite info and pics, as well as info on great vendors who do work with moissy. Good luck picking the perfect ring!
