Don’t you just let the caterer know that there is 40 people?

Usually you just tell them the # of people and they can give you the total cost.  Do they not tell you your prices beforehand?  Usually every caterer will list out menus and have the price per person.  I would guess $20-$30 per person for food plus service charge and tax?  Though I think $30 per person might be a little high here.

Oh, and that’s my guess for an outside catering company.  Something in a hotel would change my guess as they usually charge much higher as part of the cost of getting the room.

You can’t underestimate and say 30 when there will be 40, especially if it is at a hall or hotel, since the caterer will really know the numbers

@aroseharmon:  I guess I’m confused.  If it’s a buffet you will have all of those choices available, correct?  If so, just add them up and multiply them by 40 and that is what they should charge you.  That would be $1700.  Plus service and tax if it’s not included.

You really should not underestimate about the number of people because they you probably won’t have enough food.
