Bumping since therewere no replies to my original post and adding the following alternative location venues to see if any one has feedback on these too:
Crossed Keys Inn (Andover, NJ): http://www.crossedkeys.com
Highlawn Pavilion (West Orange, NJ): http://www.highlawn.com
Branches (West Long Branch, NJ): http://www.branchescatering.com/weddings.aspx
Grounds For Sculpture (Hamilton, NJ): http://www.groundsforsculpture.org
Hey FireFlyy!!!
Out of your list, I haven't personally been to "Water's Edge- Merri Makers in Sea right" however one of my friends had her sisters wedding there this past July and said it was incredible! She commented on how great they were to work with during the planning stages and how awsome their experience was the day of! She had also talked about how great the food was and that everyone had an outstanding time! I'd say it's worth looking into :o)
Personally, we did look at Highlawn Pavillion. It's a unique setting, had once been a casino years ago! Highlawn has amazing views!!! It's also owned by the same family that owns The Manor, Pleasendale Chateau and Ram's Head Inn. For my own tastes, I didn't care for the floor plan. It was a "T" shape, creating a floorplan where some guests wouldn't be able to see across the room and I had heard past reviews that it could reak havoc with the DJ's sound flowing throughout. The other thing that turned me off, was that I wanted a good size bridal suite for primping before the cocktail hour, but the one there is extremely, extremely small. I could barely move in it. Needless to say, there was no way I could have navigated it in a bridal gown. Overall they have positive reviews and the views, again, are outstanding! I believe the pricing for a Saturday night was right around $115 per head. I'm also pasting a link into this post for you that I had done on a different website that gives a breakdown of pricing on a bunch of places we looked at. I thought it might help you a little. Please let me know if I can help you out in any way possible :o)

Best Wishes!!!
FI's family had Xmas eve dinner at the Pluckemin Inn, it was a nice place. Three course dinner (appetizer, course, dessert) was $65/head when we went.
Oh and I called Perona Farms for some information as well. I saw a ton of pictures of it online and loved them! I had a friend who attended a wedding there several years ago and said it was a great place to go for an affair! They were really nice to talk to on the phone and will shoot you over and info. you need in an email so you can have a hardcopy. I believe their pricing for a sturday night in the Spring (which was the time I had been inquiring about) was around $115, possibly $120. They did say that they were able to negotiate if we wanted to change up the package. Definitely worth checking out :o)**They were also featured in VH1's series "My Big Friggin Wedding."** One of the couples were married there and you can watch the episodes online at: http://www.vh1.com/shows/my_big_friggin_wedding/series.jhtml it was Matt & Amanda and I think they were married in episode 7
Hope this helps!!!
Hey firefly!! Perona Farms is really pretty! I had a friend have a wedding there and my brother had his prom and both were really nice, and its in a pretty area!
Highlawn Pavillion- Has a really pretty view, BUT I think they focus more on the view than their food to be honest!
Good luck searching! I just got engaged and started making a list as well!! Soo many places in N. Jersey I have no idea where to start!
Good luck with everything!
I dont know if I am too late - but my bff had her wedding at Waters Edge. Everything was awesome. Sal - was AMAZING! He not only made sure the brides were ok, but also the wedding party. This also includes all the staff as well! Before the ceremony I was about to sew up a broken clasp on the brides halter when one of the waitresses saw what we were doing and offered to bring in another waitress who was a seamstress! Totally saved the day!
Crossed Keys Inn (Andover, NJ): http://www.crossedkeys.com
I was interested in this venue as well but they have a ton of restrictions (wedding has to be over by a certain time because of sound restrictions) and also a lot of additional fees
Highlawn Pavilion (West Orange, NJ): http://www.highlawn.com
I have never been there but am getting married at The Manor (same owners) which has been fabulous
Branches (West Long Branch, NJ): http://www.branchescatering.com/weddings.aspx
Again, haven't been there BUT a friend looked into it for her wedding and said they tack on a lot of extra fees and nickel and dime
Grounds For Sculpture (Hamilton, NJ): http://www.groundsforsculpture.org
Went and checked this place out. The issue is it is really small and can only fit a small # of people. This might work for you thought.
Perona Farms (Andover, NJ): http://www.peronafarms.com
Was also on my list but I heard the food was terrible and know a bride that was dissappointed with her food.
Water's Edge by Merri Maker's (Sea Bright, NJ): http://www.merrimakers.com/locations/watersedge.html
Never been there have no idea.
Venetian in Garfield was AMAZING! Food, ambience, everything. Went for a small Saturday afternoon wedding and even tho it was a smaller wedding - they still pulled out all the stops! My BF said my face when they did their dessert display was priceless! I am not sure about pricing - but food was YUMMMY - and lots of it!
My fiance and I are getting married on the beach in June this year at Ocean Place in Long Branch...how you checked them out?
I visited Perona Farms and Crossed Keys. The thing about Perona Farms is that it's not REALLY a farm. I felt like the pictures on the website made it look a lot more rustic-y then they were and the barn they show on the website isn't really available to have (plus I think i think it's a short drive from the reception hall).
On the other hand I LOVED the Crossed Keys. It's my dream location. I talked to the coordinator/owner there and she was so super nice and I just loved the history of the place and I thought it was just goregeous. The only thing that stopped us from booking them was that they didn't have a great rain option. The grounds and the 100 year old trees are what really sold me, and if it rained you had to have everything in the tent.
I had my sweet 16 at MerriMakers. It's a nice location, right on the beach, but personally I don't think it's nice enough for a wedding (no offense to anyone, I just think it's kind of drab inside)
Look into Weddings of Distinction.....if it's in your budget....it's pretty expensive....but there are 2 beautiful places on LBI, Mallard Island Yacht Club and Bonnett Island....The Stateroom is another option....
The Venetian quoted me between $100-$180 depending on the day of the week ofcourse. They also have a 200 guests min for a Saturday eve wedding.
did you decide on a place yet? We're looking for next August and have been all over, still no luck yet.
I have heard WONDERFUL things about Perona Farms; although, I have never personally been there. My fiance and I are getting married at the Primavera Regency in Stirling, NJ (near Basking Ridge) and we couldn't be more excited. They have been awesome to deal with so far in the process and I went to my cousin's wedding there a few years ago and it was incredible. The food was delicious, the place is beautiful and the service was impeccable. As a bride planning her wedding there, they have been extremely flexible with pricing and are EXTREMELY reasonably priced. We are getting married on a Sunday evening and are going to be paying $70 a person. I would highly recommend checking it out if you are still looking for a venue. One word of warning though... they book quickly! When we booked in May, all Saturdays (afternoon & evening) were book through Aug 2012 and Fridays were patchy too. Sundays were still pretty open though.
Hi,
Has anyone heard anything about Cherry Valley CC in skillman (right around the priceton area). I am trying to get their pricing for a Sat night fall wedding, but it seems that their banquet coordinator is on vacation.
Hello:
I have the perfect wedding location in New Jersey (http://www.hotelsunlimited.com/). It is a chain of hotels and I am having my wedding here as well. I researched for over a year for the perfect venue and I have truly found it. I know the stress of planning a wedding and being on a tight budget. My guest list is at 150 people and I am paying a little under $10,000 for everything included (food, alcohol, reception, centerpieces, cocktail hour; literally everything) and am MORE THAN WILLING TO HELP ANYONE lessen the stress of finding a venue. You truly get more than you pay for. Please feel free to email me at Nyasia.Bowles@gmail.com or facebook me or send me a message here. I am truly willing to help and please do not hesitate to contact me.
All the best,
~Nyasia

My Fiance (!) and I just started to look at possible wedding reception venues in NJ and we have two in particular that are at the top of our list. I haven't yet contacted either one, but will be doing so tomorrow. The issue is that I have never been to either one of these venues, so I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on either of them (or both)? In particular, I'm worried about the food that will be served (it's flavor and abundancy), but if you have any other personal experience, such a pricing or negotiation recommendations, that would be great to hear as well. We are planning on a Saturday night wedding in July of 2012. Would be wonderful to have opinions from people who have attending events at these venues. Thank you all in advance!!!
