Neither my FI or I are overly religious. That's not to say neither of us believe, but we don't attend church regularly.  FI used to with his grandparents, but since their passings, he hasn't. My family has never went to church, and I myself have only been to a handful of services with friends and their families when I was in elementary school. I'd say it's more that we aren't knowledgable on the subject rather than non-believers. We are not getting married in a church, but FI's grandmother's Pastor has agreed to marry us. My concern is with the ceremony, and what all will be said. I've read some examples of his "common ceremonies" and I don't understand half of it. Not to mention, it makes me feel awkward, and out of place, which isn't exactly the feeling someone would want to have on their wedding day. I have basically zero clue what I would want to replace any of that with though. {and I am not saying I expect nothing about God to be mentioned at all, I understand it's part of his profession, and all that.}  I found a hand ceremony online that I really like, and like the meaning behind and think it's spiritual without being too religious {http://www.weddingministerct.com/wedding-hand-blessing-ceremony.htm } but I know it's not long enough to be just that.

Does anyone out there have any ideas for me? I'm really at a loss here, and we have our first meeting with the Pastor coming up in the next week or so. I'd like to have some kind of suggestion prepared.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

There is a book called The Wedding Ceremony Planner that may be helpful to you. It has all sorts of readings, ceremony ideas, sample ceremonies, etc.
