I posted last week about our first anniverary trip to Greece (well, it’s 2 months after our anniversary). We can only go for 6 days. Need help deciding between 2 packages for those that have been to Greece.
1. 1 night in Athens, 4 nights in Santorini, 1 night in Athens.
2. 1 night in Athens, 2 nights in Mykonos, 2 nights in Santorini, 1 night in Athens.
The difference in packages is about $20 so that’s not the issue. I’m worried that with the 2nd package we would be spending the majority of our time traveling on the ferry and packing/unpacking a suitcase. Upgrading to flights would be too expensive.
Any advice on what would work better would be great! We are mainly interested in lounging by the pool/beach and exploring the island.

I would hit both islands, Mykonos and Santorini are both unique, and it gives you a better flavor of Greece than just visiting one island. In Greece, even the ferries are relaxing so it’s not like an uncomfortable plane right from place to place!
But it really depends on your personalities. My Fiance is very adventurous and doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long. He and I also pack lightly so the unpacking/repacking thing wouldn’t be a big deal. But if you don’t like to move around too much or do a lot of activities on vacations, and prefer to just lay on a beach, then you could stay on Santorini for 4 days and still have a good time.

oh i am so so so jealous!
We took out delayed honeymoon (a year later) to Greece as well….we spent a one night in Athens and a week in Santorini and three days in Mykonos.
It would be hard for me to tell you what package you should take as i dont know you well but here is how a felt abuot each place:
Santorini, the island is stunning…we stayed in Oia and loved it…you cant get mored as the Island is huge and we rented a four wheeler and bombed around the Island, checked out Fira the Caldera and other things. There is TONS to do!
Mykonos is really cute, but REALLY windy all the time which go annoying after awhile. I found it was really touristy as well. We spent alot fo time in the town shopping abd did a island cruise where we took a boat along the shore to a pricate beach (dont do it…rip off). You could also go to Delios (spelling??!)
Anyways…I would almost recommend investing 4 nights in to Santorini and then really exploring th island…you get the towns, the history, the touristry bit, wineries and everything in between.
If you want you can PM me your email and I can send you links to my facebook albums and you can check out the pictures and ask me anything 🙂

@Mrs. Cooper: What date are you planning on going? I work in tourism in Greece, and ALWAYS recommend that my clients avoid doing such a short-stay island-hopping. You waste so much time in transfer, checking in, checking out, waiting around for flights/boats, etc that it does take away the fun of the holiday. The program you describe actually only gives you one full day in each island, the other being taken up by arrival/departure, which is not great. I would 100% stay the four days is Santorini so that you get to really enjoy the island.

@Mrs. Cooper: Brilliant time to go! The sea will be so warm, and it wo’t be so mad busy as the high season will have finished. September is one of the best times of the year to come to Greece. You will have an amazing time in Santorini! Would totally recommend car hire there for you to really explore it!
