I just borrowed a few of those 101 Love Songs compilations from the library and uploaded them into the computer. I also added a few other songs we like:a bit of Motown; Alicia Keys; Phil Collins. Another good idea is to listen to the ‘golden oldies’ radio station & make notes

We played older jazzy music like Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, etc.  It was pretty and people started singing along. I think you should keep it low key.  Usually, people are eating and socializing at this time and you don’t want the music to be too loud that they won’t hear each other.  There are some great mixes out there.  We found a jazz wedding cd that had everything we wanted.  (Less work on you since the arrangements are already out there.)

We have a string trio playing during the cermony and cocktail hour so while guests are arriving to the ceremony we are playing classical type music, but then for cocktail hour they are playing contemporary music.  For example, we found they can play E.T. by Katy Perry.  Totally inappropriate with words, but on strings it sounds beautifuly for the old people and young people will for sure recognize the hipper songs.

Also, I found some cool golden olde’s covers by Adele and Amy Winehouse.  That would mix newer artists with classic oldie’s songs.
