This is what my backsplash looks like. It took as a while to come up with it. Over the sink and the oven there is a design but don’t have a picture of that. We started with the cabinets, then figured out the floor, and then did the backsplash. We are in the process of picking out countertop. As you can see, my kitchen is also a work in progress.

Did you want to tile the backsplash? There are a ton of options to tile. There are subway style tile that might look great.

@Leonard2B:  we picked something similar to the 3rd pic.  i put it next to many counters (colours and materials) and they all looked really good.  some, of course, better than others.

I think a tumbled travertine would be really pretty with the color of your cabinets. (Something like the last picture above)

I love glass tile, but I feel it is something that will become too dated after a few years, which is the reason I choose a modern but still classic backsplash.

I don’t have a picture of my kitchen, but mine is a type of multi colored smoothed travertine backsplash (I also have granite similar to what you describe) & I think something similar would also look good in your kitchen. What I like about this type of backsplash is that I feel it isn’t as modern as the glass tile, so it won’t date as much, but what does make it modern is I choose a smaller tile (to me big tiles are dated) & they are multicolored just as many glass tiles are.

We bought it from home depot and it looks very similar to this, except my tiles are square and not rectangles, and are a little more pigmented in terms of the multicolored look.
