You could play up the "book" theme by having guests write a short anecdote about you and your fiance in the guest book (instead of just signing it). =)
I think it would be really romantic to write love letter's to each other (you and your FI) and exchange them during the ceremony.... YOu can vow to read them on your 5 or 10 or 25 year anniversary. Just like in the movie when She finally found all the old letters he wrote to her (her mom kept them from her). It reminded her how much she loved him...
Another idea could be mini note books given to each couple as favors....
- a cool photo op might be to have you and FI on a boat on the water... maybe your holding a parasol. like in the movie... :)
You could try to get a band like the one playing when Lon proposed to Allie. Quotes could go on the programs, or tops of the pages in the guestbook. You could have a pair of real life swans walking around (idk where you'd go about that, but they did it in Father of the Bride! lol) Instead of table numbers, you could give the tables names related to the movie or the era. I'm not sure what else you could use, but I totally wish I had thought of a Notebook theme for my wedding! I too love that movie, and that quote they have "So it's not going to be easy. It's going to be really hard. And we're going to have to work at this every day. But I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, every day." I feel that the describes my hubby and I perfectly ;)
Awww. I love the Notebook. Have you read the Wedding?

We are doing a Notebook/WWII wedding too! My fiance was in the military and we love that era, so it seemed perfect!
One thing that my fiance came up with was to use music from The Notebook soundtrack! We are using the big band/swing music for when we are eating dinner, and then some of the softer songs are going to be played in the ceremony room while the guests are arriving, just for some background music :)
Good luck! Hope it turns out great!
Going off the swans, you could try to do a little more with birds. I know that's very in right now, and the adorable "If you're a bird, I'm a bird" quote could go a long way!
Love your theme!!!

Also, what about including the intro to the book, (I think this is it?) at the beginning of your program;
"I am no one special. Just a common man with common thoughts. I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but in one respect I've succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived. I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that has always been enough."
I also like Juliemd414's idea of the favours being notebooks.
Good luck!

Hi Ladies,
I have decided that I want to have a "NotebooK" inspired wedding. I think the Notebook is the most romantic love story of all time. I absolutley fell in love with the movie and want the same kind of feel for my wedding (romantic, vintage, beautiful). I have booked the venue at a place called Swan Harbor Farm in Havre De Grace, MD.
Its a beautiful historic house overlooking the bay. I think this place is so fitting for my notebook inspired wedding. It has the large house and its on the water. The venue even has the name "Swan" in it, which is perfect since the notebook has the romantic swan scene. I definitly want to include a swan in some of my stationary but so far thats all I got. I'm even thinking of a way to use the love quotes from the movie. Does anyone have any ideas for a Notebook inspired wedding?
