@MsKaren:  Oh, the new setting you’re thinking of is breathtaking! I love, love, love it! I think it would look gorgeous with your set.

Will they ship it to you from the States? That’s phenomenal, I had no idea they could do that! Just a little heads-up, I think they have different regulations as far as nickel content in white gold is concerned than we do in the EU, a higher percentage of nickel is allowed there. Just letting you know in case you have any allergies and want a white gold setting.

I think I may have an answer as to why the dropped the claws so low. I read somewhere that in no way should the culet of the diamond touch the band (the metal) because the diamond might get chipped if you hit your ring against something. I think that was the only way they could set the stone as low as you wanted it to be without risking that the setting would become unsafe.

I hope that helps!

@MsKaren: Platinum! You lucky girl, I’m jealous 🙂 Joke aside, I think you’re right, they should be able to ship a platinum ring to you without a problem. And I love this new setting you’re considering, it’s stunning.

In case you decide against changing your setting, you could also have a wedding ring made to fit your existing engagement ring. I don’t know if you’re into that look at all but you could have a jeweller make you a curved wedding ring to sit flush with your engagement ring or make little notches in a straight wedding band for the claws of your current engagement ring to fit into.

@MsKaren:  Yes, they’re being very nice and patient with me. The setting that I want is currently out of stock though and they don’t know when they will restock 🙁 But the guy I talked to seemed to be genuinely sorry he couldn’t give me more information and since we’re not in a hurry it’s not a big deal. It’s coming back eventually, that’s all I want!

Have you told them that the only problem was that your setting won’t sit flush with your wedding band? Maybe ask them for a suggestion on a setting that will?

For what it’s worth, I think the new setting you’re considering might actually work with a straight wedding band. It has a round peg under the head but as the setting seems slightly tapered that may not be a problem.

It really depends on who you’re talking to, btw. Just try again and see who you get this time! I have chatted with three people and while they were all very nice, I think some have a little more knowledge than others.

@MsKaren:  Oh I know how you feel, I keep thanking them and feel like such a pain in the neck for asking so many questions! But I think most sales people are actually happy to help as long as the customer is polite – you’d be surprised how rude some people are!
