Darling Husband and I are planning to announce to our families after our first appt on 4/18. They all live far away and I’m wondering what we could do and still have it be creative and fun. what ideas have you come across? Ps: we do hope to have an us pic after that appt.

@august05: Skype? Email? Phone calls?
The trouble with anything else is that if people are all spread out, it has to be done at pretty much the same time from your end or they’ll find out through others. So like mailing an announcement or something could backfire.
Maybe put a picture of your ultrasound in an email if that’s available? Or maybe that’s too impersonal. A phonecall would be appreciated I think.

Could you send a package to each person via UPS or Fed Ex. Alert them you have sent something but instruct not to open. Skype or facetime all of them while they open and reveal 🙂

We did a Christmas card/Announcement to send to everyone we couldn’t tell in person. Everyone pretty much found out at the same time and it’s something they can keep if they want to. I know it’s not Christmas… but you can always use the sonogram pic and do something similar. I just took a picture in our backyard and used Walgreen’s website and made these myself 🙂

I did the shoes thing too. You can add a dog’s paws too (mine pup was too concerned with the shoes! Everyone LOVED it!

@august05: I plan to do something like what @RoyalLime: said – send a big box of balloons and attach a sonogram picture to one of the balloons so the balloons pop out when they open the box! I just wonder if the balloons would survive the trip…

@jdashiell17: I got so many compliments on my cards, and they were so easy to make and fairly inexpensive 🙂

I like these ideas! I don’t want to mail anything because I kind of feel like it could backfire with timing.( they all live in the same town). I’m thinking we may just email them one at a time while we phone call or Skype….we don’t have THAT many people we would tell this early, just parents and siblings mainly.
we could get away with telling DHs parents through an emai picturel pretty easily and they are the ones we really want to surprise….it’ll be grandbaby #1 for them. We always send Father-In-Law pics of things that are broken around the house to get his input on how we would fix it. I figure that could be our cover, maybe be skyping about something broken and then send the reveal.
i love the dog paws and shoes idea….I’m a photographer too so that could be really cute.

I sent an email out to everyone at the same time with the following message:
“Hi Aunts, Uncles and Cousins-
[DH] and I wanted to share our very exciting news with you! We are expecting!
We could not be more excited to bring a little one into our wonderful family! We know it will be surrounded with love!
More details in the photo attached.
Hope all is well with everyone. Can’t wait to talk to you all soon!”
Then I attached a 3-part photo announcement that said “First comes love” (with a pic from when we first started dating), “Than comes marriage” (with a pic from our wedding), “then comes baby” (with our 11 week ultrasound photo).
Everyone loved it!
