Hey lovely bees! As you may know Mr. J and I have been renovating a tiny little cottage up here in Alaska and I think it is coming along really really well. The main issues I need ideas with are storage and colors for our kitchen. It is a very open concept living/dining/entry/kitchen type place and we allready have light mint and grey blue in the living room. I really want to use a bright color for the kitchen but am afraid it will look goofy with the light and dark wood together.
1. the kitchen (excuse the mid construction mess) we have since added a white tile topped kitchen table.
2. The green-blue-gret-white living room with stenciled wall
3. I really like this color scheme, but should I really commit to orange walls?! Orange accents maybe? I would LOVE to have the walls a bright color like this orange but am afraid it would be overwhelming.

why not that olive green? my boyfriend’s rental home has that color and it’s actually beautiful in a kitchen! You can then pull in orange and blue accents in that room (curtains, a colorful bowl, etc) and some more green accents into the living room (couch cushions! art!)
From experience, orange almost NEVER goes well… you have to have the exact perfect shade, and even if you pick one that you love, it’s really overwhelming. I’d stick to pale blues/greens/greys for walls, and let the bright colors be accents – that way if you get sick of them, they’re an easy fix. 🙂

Just want to throw out the counterpoint that an orange accent wall looks pretty awesome if done right! We have one in our house and I love it. The key is to find the right shade (ours is quite bright, almost southwestern-adobe style) and to not have it be tooo much of the house, I think.
I do agree with PP though that it also looks great to have neutral walls and then do lots of pops of color. You could do the light gray that’s in your color scheme (make sure it’s fairly gray so it doesn’t just look dirty) and then use artwork, furniture, etc for the color.
Looks great so far!
