Here is my situation. My wedding colors are yellow and grey. I am in love with this color combo and I know its not traditional but it fits us very well. I recently found an invitation design that I love and my fiance plans on using it as inspiration to design our invitations (see picture).
When I was talking to my dad about them he argued with me that yellow will be way too hard to see on a white background AND that yellow is the most expensive color to print (he used to work in the printing industry)…But I do NOT want to change my color combos.
So my questions are, from your experience is yellow too hard to read on a white background? And if anyone else has had yellow printed on invitations, is it more expensive than other colors?? I know I just need to call around and get a quote, but I haven’t gotten that far yet.
If anyone has personal experiences, advice or opinions to share please do!

Hmmm, my sister had some yellow on her invitations, but the main print was done in another colour (like the picture you posted). I would avoid doing the main print in yellow, but if you are doing something similar to the picture above, I think it would look great!

@Brianalaura: I agree with <– what she said.
I wouldn’t do TEXT in yellow, but detailing would be fine.

I like the picture you posted–I hate trying to read yellow text on a white background.

Yea I think your picture is great! Grey text, the cute little details in yellow would be fine.

I agree with the above. Yellow will be too hard to read. If your colors are yellow and grey, why can’t the main text be grey, with yellow accents, like in the example you posted? I think that invitation looks great!

I like what you posted. I think if you did the text in yellow it would be very difficult to read.

Thank you! We would definitely use grey as the main text, but I don’t want to completely do away with the yellow. Im sure my dad was thinking yellow was the majority of it. This makes me feel much better.

We also did yellow and grey as well for our invites. I think what you have here is fine! The text is all grey and that’s easy enough to read.
As for the cost of printing, I don’t know if that is true with printing companies, as they usually count it as either color or B&W, and it costs a flat fee.

My colors are yellow and gray. And I was literally just thinking about the yellow on white thing today too. I think yours look fine though. Not hard to see as none of the text is in yellow.

@neontl: is correct about the cost of digital printing (which this would be). Color is a flat fee based on quantity; b/w is cheaper. I’ve been in the print industry for ver 10 years, and yellow has never been more expensive than other colors. I’m not sure where your dad is getting that info. I also agree yellow on white is to hard to read as text. 🙂

As long as the important detail oriented text isn’t in yellow you should be fine. The invitation you posted looks great!
