I think mine’s technically empire waist! I’ve seen a couple other bees with the same dress who have gone with a belt for it, but I plan to leave it without- I just love the way it flows!

Following because I’d like to see some photos of others as well. Sometimes I second guess myself when I see how great others look in the mermaid/trumpet styles! But I always end up coming back to my dress. 🙂

crisy003 Do you have any photos of yours?

I have the same dress as BrittanyErin (I’m one of the ones she’s referring to) – and I am wearing it with a sash. I’ve always thought of empire waists as starting just below the bust (Jane Austen movies pop up in my head), while my dress is more of a natural waist. I guess David’s says it’s empire because it’s not drop-waist, like most dresses are today? I don’t know . . . At any rate, I love empire waists – you get to have long legs in them! And not everyone wants to show every curve (not that I am judging anyone who does, by any stretch of the imagination . . . ). I mostly find myself glad that there are so many options out there, and that allows all of us to find what fits our personalities the best. Ok, maybe I’m just in a of a hokey/happy mood right now . . . But that’s how I feel about so much with weddings. There are all sorts of things that aren’t right for us, and we see them all over the place, and how lucky are we to live in a time where we get to choose!

BrittanyErin:  Your dress is so beautiful. I’m glad you’re not going to belt it. It’s perfect the way it is!

Whether others love it or not is immaterial – what YOU feel when you wear it is what matters! Smile and love yourself 🙂

I’m not sure if mine counts as an empire, but I love it!

crisy003:  I think mine is right in the middle of empire waist and natural waist 🙂

crisy003:  It’s similar to yours! Beaded bodice and tulle skirt!! Yours is very pretty! I love the colored details!

I don’t have a pic but mine is an empire waist and it looks great on me.  But I am a street size 16 and I have a bit of a tummy which I wanted to hide.  I am also a B cup and the empire waist also made my chest look bigger.  I think it really depends on your body type.  I had a friend who tried on an empire waist dress and it looked awful. But she was 5’9 with a long torso and long arms and legs  it didn’t do a thing for her.  She went with a ballgown skirt and looked great.

crisy003:  I have no freakin idea! It says “black label”…but I’ve been unable to find it anywhere online. I got it at a bridal salon that I won a free gown from!

One of my favorite brides ever on Say Yes To The Dress wore a gorgeous true empire waist gown. I’ll see if I can find the episode for you…
