I’m recovering from a horrible flu and I am supposed to fly out thurs morning for a friend’s destination wedding in Mexico. I got sick friday morning was down and out all weekend and yesterday. I came to work today (barely) to try and force myself to feel normal again. I’m really worried about flying and possibly getting sick again… not to mention possibly passing it to the bride and other guests! I’m supposed to be there thurs- sun (wedding is on thursday). She is a good friend of mine and was one of my bridesmaids which I why I really want to go and would feel awful about canceling (I have trip insurance). I’ve basically been surviving on bananas and rice for the past 3 days. I feel awful and do not want to upset my friend.
What should I do??

Go! You’ve paid for the ticket and I’m sure she’d be disappointed if you couldn’t make it. Hopefully dayquil comes in travel size.

As much as you would love to be there for your dear friend, if you’ve had to be on the BRAT diet for days because of the flu, it may not be the best idea to head to Mexico for the weekend.
If you are feeling much better by early in the day tomorrow, maybe you could try to go. However, if you’re still feeling weak and ill, and you haven’t really recovered from your symptoms, I would suggest that you not try to add international travel on top of what you’re already trying to manage.
I hope you feel better soon!

I would rest as much as possible and try to make it… I think the gesture would mean a lot to your friend, even though it may be physically ailing to you.

That’s a tough one. I would say if you’re really not feeling that well you should sit this one out. If you think you can do it, the more power to you. Flying can really make you feel worse. I will never forget the day I flew with a little cold, by the time I got off the plane (2 hrs later) I had a full blown sinus infection and was miserable the whole vacation. I’m sure she would understand, you can’t help it if you’re genuinely sick.

You are going to feel sick regardless so I would go. At this point you are probably on the mend. Make sure you wash your hand/gel as much as possible and unless you are making out with either the bride/groom it is unlikely you will get them sick.

@Brielle: That’s what scares me- the international travel part. Possibly getting sick on the plane from someone else or old symptoms coming creeping back up. If I got the Bride sick, I would feel awful. The flu has been going around my office like crazy.
I got trip insurance so I can cancel up to one hour before the plane.

I’d say go! See how you feel tomorrow. It is likely passed the point of being able to pass it on to the other guests.

Its amazing what 24 hours can do for you especially if you are starting to feel better, even just a tiny bit.
What you should do and what I would do are probably two different things.
If I could make the flight without feeliong 100% terrible, I would still go.

Fingers crossed that I wake up tomorrow and feel like a million bucks! I guess it will be a game day decision.
