Something I've seen done is wire in the tall vases or bear grass. If you liked the idea of flowers floating, I've also seen silk flowers attached to the wire that is floating in the vases (will look for pic!).

I know you said you don't have $$ for flowers...but I think just the wire could look pretty, or cheap flowers from Michael's, WalMart...they would be submerged and attached to the wire, so no one would know if they are real or not!

I think that's a good idea, but I was thinking ribbons. They might sink to the bottom by themselves, but you might be able to fix them to the glass some how or the bottom of the candle, so they hang in the water. Otherwise, I've seen wide fabric or ribbon around the vases.

Hi, hive!
We've hit our four month mark TODAY and I suppose its time I start nailing down some decor ideas for our reception site... Our site is sort of an urban loft in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan and has very neutral decor. We're doing a chartreuse, plum, black, and white color scheme... the flowers will be the green and purple, but everything else will be very simple w/ the black and white colors.
We are planning to hang huge purple lanterns over the dance floor (only like 4 or 5) and then a ton of little white ones mixed in. I also plan to buy the bulk 7 1/2 in tall vases from dollartree.com and already cleaned out Hobby Lobby's white floating candles :) My question is, does anyone have any good suggestions for what I can put in the vases with the floating candles? My fear is that they'll look too plain with just the water and the candle, but the other thing is I'm afraid if I put black river rocks or marbles or something, it will start to look kind of all over the place. Has anyone seen the floating candles in just water with no decor down in the vase? Our budget does not allow to sink flowers under the candles so thats not an option!
I know worrying about floating candles is such a stupid thing, but I can't seem to nail down in my head what its all going to look like. Thanks!
