Hi everyone!! This is my first post on here but I’ve been looking at everyone’s gorgeous rings for weeks! 🙂 I have a few questions that I would greatlyyy appreciate if anyone could give me their opinions about 🙂
So here’s my questions:
My fiancé to be *yay* has asked me to find a couple rings that I Like for him to choose from. I don’t want a diamond for multiple reasons, I just don’t personally want us spending thousands on jewelry. I do love how gorgeous they are tho! So anyways, I’m in between white sapphires and moissanites. I was wondering how other people feel about these, if one is better than the other, more durable, if either look like costume jewelry and so on. I have two rings picked out that I love!! I’m leaning towards the moissanite, it’s stunning! Pricing wise they are similar, the white sapphire is about 100 dollars more for the set.
here is the white sapphire link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/113007668/14k-white-sapphire-ring-halo-setting?ref=cat_gallery_24
and here is the moissanite: http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-brilliant-moissanite-petite-halo-wedding-set-p-14535.html
last question!:) my finger is a size 5, do you think a half carat would look to small? Or would it be okay? If anyone has a half carat halo or either of these rings please post pics!!!!:)
Thanks in advance for any opinions/pics!!:)

The moissanite is more durable for everyday wear and should not scratch up over time.
The petite pave ring that you selected for the moissanite setting is only. 1.3mm thick, which IMO is not durable/thick enough for everyday wear and tear. I would go with a minimum of 2mm on the band but that’s just me.

As for carat size, you should go into a jewelry store and try on different sizes so you will find the one that you like the best. You may find .50 ct too small or 1 carat too big, etc.

thanks so much! I had no idea that it was to skinny. Ill look some more on that website and see if I find anything else. Great idea about trying some on to get a better idea, ill certainly be making a trip with my boyfriend. Thanks again!!!!!

Sapphires are extremely durable (second only to diamonds) and they’re so breathtakingly pretty.
I’m biased. I have a sapphire engagement ring, so. 🙂
I wear close to a size 7 with a half carat sapphire and it looks fine on me. Then again, I’m not a size queen and I’m a pretty simple girl. BTW, a half carat sapphire will look smaller than a half carat diamond because sapphires are denser.

I don’t know if this will help, but here is a thread with some pictures of the moissanite you are looking at on some bees’ finger. I know seeing a ring on a finger always helps for me!

Have you seen them in person (sapphire vs. moissanite)? I have a moissy, and I was able to go into a local store where they showed me one that was set in an estate ring. Sapphires are beautiful, but they sparkle very differently, i thought, so it is totally a matter of preference.
I love delicate-looking settings, so I really like the one from moissaniteco.com. And I would second beesbelle about trying different sizes on if possible. I wear a size 4, and did not like the size of a .5 ct solitaire on my hand, but with a halo it seemed really big

Whether .50 carat will look small on you is relative. I have a size 5 finger and I like the look of 1 carat or bigger, however I have seen many women with size 5 fingers with stones as little as .25 and it still looks lovely! It just depends on your perspective, so regardless of if you’re buying a diamond you should definitely go try on some to get an idea of what proportions suit you!
As for the stone type, I prefer moissanite (and own one myself) to white sapphires. Unfortunately I cannot open the Etsy link, because it’s blocked on my work computer, but I have seen many photographs of the Petite halo and it is lovely. I have heard of the stones falling out a lot and though I am sure that isn’t the case for every owner of that ring, it’s something to keep in mind before purchasing.
