First off, I couldn’t be any happier- I just got engaged about 2 weeks ago to an amazing man! I feel very blessed, so please don’t think I’m a negative person. I tried on my first wedding dress a couple days ago after my best friend insisted we go and take a look, and because, why not, I’m engaged!
Here is the issue though… I unexpectedly, and happily got pregnant before we got engaged. I had my 9 pound son 6 months ago. I’m 5 foot 2, and I used to weigh about 110-115 pounds.. I gained 60 pounds with my son.. and I’ve lost about 45! However, I still have my baby belly “shelf” and 15 pounds to lose. (15 pounds looks like a LOT on a 5 foot 2 girl!) I feel chunky.. I’m not happy with the way I look in these dresses! I’m fitting into a size 8 right now! I understand that I still have plenty of time, we plan on getting married next May. But, should I even be looking right now? Should I wait until I’ve lost the weight? Also, what about this baby belly? Do any of you brides to be suggest a style or dress that is “forgiving” in the belly area? If I find a dress, do I order it in my size now, or the size I “hope” to be? Are there any baby first brides out there? Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you!

Maybe an empire waist? I’d be wary of ordering it in the size you hope to be – I’ve read that a lot of brides do this and have to have panels added in! Of course, it depends to a degree on how much time you have until the wedding, and you have plenty. Can you wait on ordering a dress until you are ~8 months out, and see how you are then?
btw, you might get better replies if you try reposting in a different section. We are experts here at waiting for proposals only. 🙁

The good news is that next May is a year away! Most dresses are ordered a good number of months ahead of time, though. Is there a bridal salon you have your heart set on? If so, you could ask them about how much time before your wedding you need to order your dress, and what kinds of alterations are possible.
My sister is in your reverse situation! She ordered her size four dress then found out she was pregnant! The dress came in the other day, and she can barely squeeze in (not a pounds issue, but a rearranging of the hips issue). Thankfully the wedding is in August so the bridal shop can still do the alterations.
Have you looked into corset-style dresses?
