I have gotten myself into a bit of a pickle and I am not sure how to go about it…
I am currently in the middle of my 3rd year of teaching aka my tenure year. I am in a rural school.
I am also currently 16w pregnant. I am not married, nor do we plan on getting married anytime soon.
My students know that I have a boyfriend and that we live together and have dogs (they are in grades 4-6) and everyone in my school knows that I am not married. Many people know that my BF and I have only been together for a year (we are in our 30s)
I am really not sure how to go about this. We really have a personal belief that we do not need to be married to have children and we are over the moon excited about our child.
I am so scared to tell my principal and end up losing my job because I am not following the norm. I would not be nervous about losing tenure if I was married. I have had great observations but I was graded “ineffective” last year due to the way my school set up our APPR teacher grading system (I am a special education teacher and ALL of the elm. special ed teachers were ineffective and put on TIP plans). They changed the set up and I know I will not be this year because we are getting graded (more) fairly! I know my principal likes me too and I do stuff around the school.
My bf and I were considering doing a domestic partnership just to shut people up and we are comfortable “rushing” into that…we just want a real wedding/engagement and do not want to be forced into doing something fast because we are pregnant.
