Hi Bees,
I can't believe I'm even sharing this, it makes me feel really vulnerable, but I feel like you guys can probably relate and give me some advice and make me feel better. I fell in love with my dress when I bought it because of the way it made me feel (more than anything, it fit the "vibe" I was going for), and everyone I was with told me it looked great. I'm really, really critical of myself, so of course I asked a zillion times if I looked fat and everyone assured me that I did not.
But then I saw the pictures of myself in the dress and all I could see was my huge hips. Yuck. I panicked, but thought if I lost some weight, I would feel better. I have lost about 10 pounds and toned up a little, so in general I feel better about myself. I went to my last dress fitting (last Saturday) and felt like I looked good in the dress. But the same thing happened - then I looked at pictures I took that day and I thought I looked fat; in fact, I think I look the same size as I did when I tried the dress on originally. Comparing the two, I am having a hard time seeing if I actually look like I lost any weight or not.
I guess I'm worried that I will hate the way I look in all of our pictures, and that people will be wondering why I chose that style of dress having big hips like I do. I'm not sure if this anxiety is normal, given my wedding is coming up very soon, or if anyone else felt this way?
I have included "before" pictures of me in the dress (the ones with the veil) and the "after" of me at my fitting. Please excuse how wrinkly the dress is - it's getting cleaned this week before I pick it up.
Can you tell I lost any weight, and does it look flattering or do I just look big?
Thanks girls....be gentle, I'm fragile right now :)
Okay...I'm going to say this in the nicest way possible...You are crazy!! :)
First of all, that dress is absolutely beautiful. And second of all, you looked great in the before AND after pics! I can see a difference, but like I said...you looked awesome in it before you even lost ten pounds!
You look stunning and curvaceous! You have an hourglass figure a la Betty Grable and all of those gorgeous starlets! Wow!
I'm going to have to second Tulip61110 , you look absolutely STUNNING in both your before and after pics. Your hips do not look huge at all! You look beautiful & sexy! It's such a great dress on you and really shows off your incredible figure! I hope you wear the dress with confidence at your wedding b/c you look GREAT!
I don't think you look fat at all! You look great in both pictures. I wish I had any hips at all. Curvy doesn't mean fat.
First of all, you were at RK's huh? I know it well!
Secondly, and I swear on everything that I'm not just saying this- you look amazing in that dress! I am sooooo serious! I love it on you. And you look like you're the perfect figure 8, which is who that dress is meant for. I promise you, its a beautiful dress on you!
You're probably just dealing with the inevitable nerves, which manifests in silly ways. You'll be a knock out!
I agree with Tulip. You are crazy! I think you have a perfect hourglass shape. Your hips don't look big at all. And your waist is tiny. What exactly are you seeing in the pictures that you don't like?
You definitely look more toned! I REALLY notice it in your back and shoulders area. And, your waist definitely looks nipped in quite a bit =]
You look great! I love that dress, it's very romantic and pretty
You're definitely being WAAAAAAAY critical of yourself for no reason. You look great, the dress is really flattering, and you've got a great figure!
I understand where you're coming from, though. Sometimes I look at pictures of myself and I hate them and other people tell me I'm crazy and that they don't see what I see. It's easy to overanalyze and be hyper-critical of ourselves, especially when it comes to how we look in our wedding dress, but seriously you look great so don't worry about it.
I agree with Tulip...I do see a difference, but you looked fabulous from the beginning.
I think you looked great before and great after! Look at that hourglass, do you know how many girls would kill for that, you've got such a cute little waist you don't have hips. I honestly love that on women. You don't look like you needed to loose any weight before at all but congrats on doing so! I understand on what you mean by feeling that way, I think we all go through it especially right before such a big day but everything looks smooth and clean, I don't see any trouble spots you just look like a sexy stunning bride!
I think you definately look smaller in the waist, but I also think you look amazing in that gown. I think it suits your body really well.
And don't worry, you aren't the only one that doesn't like they way she looks in photos.. I'm sure you could get a dozen girls here to say they have the same reaction.
You look beautiful!
I think you can see a bit of a difference in the back photos. Not that you didn't look fine before, but in the second picture of the back, it looks like the dress flows more off your hips and butt than being more form-fitting. I don't think you look hippy, but nicely proportional with an hourglass shape.
Since it sounds like you're more worried about how it's coming across in pictures, maybe you can talk to your photographers and they can recommend poses or be more aware of that when they're choosing angles.
Hey!
So I think the dress is beautiful and you look beautiful in it!
You have curves in all the right places for it.
And I can def tell you lost weight, your waistline looks tinier.
Overall I think it's a very flattering gown on you and you look beautiful!!
And you are not fat!!!
Seriously, just go back on my posts I'm not one of those that jump into every single dress thread to tell a bride she looks great just to be nice. When I say it I mean it.
The dress really looks great on you and I can tell in the after pix that you look a bit slimmer! Good Job, it is really pretty
You look amazing. And the dress's details actually pull the eyes up, away from the hips. Not that they're a problem anyway!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - you guys are THE BEST! It is so comforting knowing that I can come here, feeling like s***, and you guys will be there to pick me up in a matter of seconds with your kind replies.
I'm tearing up a little at all of the nice things you guys have said - what can I say, I'm overly emotional right now :) Your kind words mean so much to me, especially as I am someone who is really hard on myself.
And Jennifer - yep, RK Bridal. Ha ha.
I never chime in unless I really love it, and I really love how you look in this dress! It looks awesome on you. I looked at the pics first and couldn't for the life of me figure out why you didn't like the dress = so I read what you wrote. You def. don't look fat AT ALL. I thought you looked great in the before, but the nicely toned back in the after is a nice touch :)
wow, i have to say you look beautiful. you don't need to lose weight - this shows off your figure very well and also has just a timeless romance to it. i'm a sucker for lace.
enjoy your day, you deserve it!
WTF are you talking about... Be gentle. Girl.. This dress is talking to you. it works. you look great. How could you possibly question if this looks good. It's beautiful. I can't scream it enoug. oh yes I can IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
You look so good, your body is totally in proportion and you are rocking that dress! You have an awesome figure.
The problem is as follows:
We have been looking at our dresses on stick-figure models. This has warped our vision of ourselves, and any curves (even hot-sexy ones) make us feel weird when we see them in our own photos. You look beautiful!
I thin some of the Pronovias models have to be standing on like 2' tall boxes. If you look closely, there is no way their legs are 5 times as long as their torsos.
That said, stop feeling bad, and start getting excited! Lookin' good girl!
WOW! Girl this dress looks great on you! I think it makes your curves look amazing! I can definatly see that you've slimmed down some in the second pictures. I think you look great!
OMG you are so not fat 1st of all! 2nd of all I def see a diff from your b4 and after pics so I def think all your hard work paid off. You look great in the dress!! Its a gorgeous dress and you will look super amazing in it once your hair and makeup are done and jewlery is on. Think of the big picture, everyone will swoon when they see you, promise!
I totally agree with everyone, you look amazing. I also agree that I can see the change and it is definitely showing in your back. Hips are a great thing to have (says the straight as a board girl). A.MAZ.ING.
The only reason your hips look big is because your waist looks tiny!
It is a beautiful dress that looked great and still does look great. The weight loss is just a bonus.
STUNNING!!!!! You look amazing! You are rocking the hell outta that dress and you have a beautiful body!
PS I can totally relate but seriously, you look amazing!!Def can see a different in the back of the 2 different photos... you looked wonderful in the first and even better in the second! ENJOY THE WEDDING!
I love the dress on you, it's gorgeous and it fits you so well! You do look more toned in the 2nd pictures so great job! :) But you definitely do not need to lose weight!
Stop Staring At Your Hips!!! :P
Seriously, the only thing I notice in the photographs (other than how beautiful you look) is that you are wonderfully proportioned and that you have curves where you should (the silhouette is great!); you don't look heavy, or bottom-heavy by any means. Take a deep breath and own it!
I looked at the "before" pics and I was thinking you were crazy!!! You looked great!! Then I scrolled down to the after and you look even better! I can definitely tell that you've lost a bit, but you look great in every pic :)
I can tell you lost weight!! And I think you look great!!! Please don't be worried about your hips! You have beautiful birthing hips! That's what mine have always been called(they're kinda big also), I personally take it as a compliment.
So you look beautiful!! in your dress!! and I'm sure you'll look even more gorgeous on your wedding day!!
We tend to be our own worst critics! I HATE the photos I have of myself in my wedding dress. All I do is zero in on a percieved lower tummy bulge in my fitted dress. I cried and wondered if I made a huge mistake picking the dress. I haven't' gone back to try it on since. I showed my FMIL pictures, and she looked at me like I was crazy and said the dress was "made for me!".
You look ROCKIN in that dress! I agree with ejs4y8, your waist definitely looks smaller and back more toned in the "after" photos. You have a curvy body, and you rock it well! Curvy DOES NOT equal fat by anymeans. My problem is I have a boy body - my waist is straight up and down, no curves, and I have a small chest. So any weight around my middle sticks out more than my boobs, and I tend to be too critical of myself in that regard. We just gotta love how we look :)
I definitely notice a difference in the last picture from the back, you can tell you've lost weight. I think your dress is absolutely stunning and you shouldn't worry about a thing. I had the same reaction to my pictures so I know how you feel!!!
Here's the thing... Your after pictures are taken with a white background... so it's going to be infinitely hard to see the difference since the background blends with your dress. You're doing great and I would set your mind at ease!
Last I heard, men love hips! Look at Beyonce! I am going through the same thing too when I went to try my gown on, I wished I could just suck my hips in but I couldnt, You look gorgeous though dont worry about it! We are women so its ok to be paranoid about our body
I don't know how else to say this...
You look great in that dress. Period.
Stop it. You're being ridiculous. :-P
OMG I wish I had your body...no seriously...I try to make hips where there are none...that dress looks fantastic on you! It's suppose to be a form fitting dress, so it's gonna hug you in all the right places. If I had you body I would rock the hell out of that dress! And I can definitely see the difference between the before and after pics, but honestly you didn't need it to begin with...I would rather fill out a dress than have it drape on me...but that's just my opinion :)
thanks everyone...you guys are definitely putting my mind at ease!
it's funny because a lot of you are echoing the same exact things that my mom and sister said that day when i bought my dress - my waist looks small, curves are proportional, etc. - but it feels better hearing it from people who don't know me and don't have to say nice things to me! ha.
seriously, i appreciate the feedback and kind words so much. you've definitely talked me off the ledge.
bmore - great idea about talking to my photog about getting some flattering poses.
and to everyone who said that we are way too hard on ourselves because of the damn models we see modeling the dresses - amen. so true.
it would be so much easier if we could see ourselves the way that our fiance/husband/friends/family see us, wouldn't it? we would be so much happier! i'm working on it ;)
and in case you're interested, the weight loss is thanks to ms. jillian michaels and a lot of hard work at the gym! no fad diets or severely restricted calories here, just trying the best i can to be healthy mentally and physically.
