FI and I keep going back and forth about what to do for our HM.  Belize, no Hawaii.  No Belize, no Hawaii.  You get my drift.

I've been in contact with a travel agent to assist in planning the Belize trip.  I gave her our budget and she came back with some options.

This is where I'm torn.  I did some looking online and found that if we booked it ourselves it could be SOME cheaper.   The caveat is that we'd be staying at a vacation rental vice a nice hotel

So, for your honeymoon, which would you prefer?

Vacation rental (either a condo type place or small house) or a resort type hotel with various ameneties?

I think you will want a resort.  A vacation rental is ok, but for your honeymoon are you really going to want to cook?  At a resort you can get room service instead of cooking.

I'd prefer a resort. But you'll have a wonderful honeymoon no matter what :)

I agree with a resort. This is your time to be spoiled. As for traveling out of the country, use a travel agent and pay a little more for it. They will know the places to go, all you need to be prepared for (passports, flight changes, etc) and get you a wholesale rate. Why risk something going wrong by booking it yourself for this occassion? Good luck!

go for resort for sure! then you know exactly what you're spending and don't have to worry about it during your trip. i do not want to do ONE thing on our honeymoon. we have our day to day life to make yummy meals. i'll have someone else do it for me for a week!

i think the rental sounds lovely, but you will not want to cook and all that after your wedding - go resort!

I'm going to go the other way than pps, and say go for the rental.  You don't have to cook for every meal, but it is really nice to have the option.  Plus, you can store leftovers, breakfast items, etc... so it's not always a choice between ordering room service (expensive) or putting on clothes to walk down to the restuarant (hehehe).  And you'll probably have more privacy in a rental with fewer interruptions than you'd get in a resort (maid service, people running up and down the hallway, etc...).

I voted resort. If you're doing the laid back beach thing, it would be nice to have someone else worrying about getting the food, cleaning up, etc. while all you guys have to do is just pay for it.

We haven't decided yet, but an all-inclusive resort package sounds so much better than cooking on your honeymoon!
