My go-to gift for a female that I don’t know what to get is a volcano candle from Anthropologie. They are like $30, but they are the best and they come in pretty containers. I know its like, ugh a candle? But seriously whenever I give someone one at first they’re like “yay thanks” but then they actually use it and they’re like “OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!” haha.

Otherwise, unless I really know the person and their tastes, I usually just go with a gift card.

@jessyrez:  You know…Restoration Hardware has a great selection of impersonal, yet very nice gifts…luxury throws and bathrobes, slippers, infiniti scarves…look around there and see if you find something that says, “Here…I’m supposed to buy you somthing.”  They’ll even wrap it for an extra $7

Personally, I think gift cards are great! Especially for someone who you aren’t that close with. I figure it would suck to buy them something they hate or will never use so why not get them a card and they can buy whatever they want. You just have to make sure the store you get it from makes sense for them. Good luck!

@jessyrez:  Anthro or Restoration are both EXCELLENT suggestions for “I don’t know what to get this chick” gifts. They sell pretty, high quality “stuff” that most women I know would enjoy. I’d go for accessories over clothes. I mean, I’ll wear a nice scarf that isn’t quite my style but I hated it when my mom would buy me clothes I’d never wear.

Bangle bracelets, earrings, scarves, necklaces, sunglasses, candles, purses, throws, jewlery holders…. all stuff you can find at those two stores and are easy.

Do you know what stores she likes to shop at? A gift card from her favourite store isn’t impersonal, but a gift card from Walmart is something you give your secretary!

Does she like reading? I always buy people books. If I don’t know their specific tastes, I either buy one of my favourites I doubt they’ll have read (but only if I know they generally like that kind of story, etc) or new books that are pretty popular – Barnes and Noble always has a lot of suggestions especially at this time of year.

I’m also a fan of anything upscale but impersonal!

Like a bathrobe with bath salts an a nice candle!

I think that was the last really nice, wildly impersonal gift I got from someone.
