We are closing on our house tomorrow. Initially we had planned a nice night at the house together but now something has come up and my fiance needs to attend a work function. I am disappointed, but realize that his work is one of the main reasons we are able to afford the house and it’s important that he continue to do well.
So that I continue to be excited about the house I was thinking that I would go over after I get the keys and hide a small gift for my fiance that he can search for the next time that he goes to visit. Right now all that I can think of is putting a bottle of champagne and glasses in the fridge for us to use as a toast the next time we visit. Any other thoughts?

Well first congrats on the hosue! We are hopefully about a week or so from closing, we are so ready to be where you are. Such an exciting time.
I have been trying to think of something nice to do for my FH since it’s basically his income is the reason we can afford the house too. I was thinking along the lines of a blanket, some candles and a little picnic in our new dining room. Or maybe a small household item that I know he wants and put it somewhere in the house for him. Just to say welcome to our new house and I love you for all that you do.
I’ll be watching to see if anyone else has any ideas. Good luck and congrats again!

I think you could still go with your original plan – just do it the day after you close 🙂
When we celebrated our first day in the new house we had a carpet picnic and had wine and pizza – then lit the fireplace and just layed and relaxed.
