Definitely post a picture of the dress you have!  My MIL sound so much like yours, it’s kind of scary (although she thinks she’s hot stuff ..seriously).  Anyway,  my MIL got a dark brown dress from the thrift store of all places & she really didn’t look half bad!  Her shoes were like those black stretchy/wedge slip on sandals from the 90s.  Totally didn’t match, but I’m probably the only one who noticed haha.  Be patient & encouraging with your MIL!  Try to get your FH involved.  My DH told his mom how important it was for her to dress & act like a civilized human being ..& she was actually!   Good luck ;]

@crisy003:  Ooh I really like that one on the right!!  The one on the left looks a little bridesmaid-y, but whatever you can do to make sure she isn’t in jeans & T, by all means because it’s definitely pretty!

Has she mentioned what she is going to wear yet or anything.  I would make sure she doesn’t have other ideas yet so she doesn’t feel obligated or you look too bridezilla about it, you know..

I LOVE the one on the right, and I think it would be perfect for a woman with her errrm, sense of style. It’s simple, it’s beautiful, and she doesn’t have to spend money on it!

I know this is against your wishes to put her in a dress, but have you considered getting her a nice type of pant suit? being a person who lives in shirts and jeans she may feel more comfortable with that option.

I used to take outfits to my Mom’s house for her to wear for special occasions – like my Dad’s funeral.

My Mom was too frugal and just didn’t care enough to buy anything. She would still be wearing a green fortrel dress if she were still alive.

Your situation is a bit different as this is your FMIL you are talking about, but I think if you bring up the subject diplomatically, she will appreciate the offer of a dress to borrow.

Love the one on the right as well! I think it would be wonderful of you to loan her a dress to wear!
