So I just posted about a guestook and all it took was reading a post about favors and now I’m on to that 🙂 Oh lordy someone help me!
My wedding is supposed to be springy, romantic (latte & blush pink colors) with a touch of rustic. I’ve got a cake topper made with wooden birds, birds nest ring bearer pillow and want a birdcage for the cards so I thought I’d go with birds nest filled with quail egg candy for favors.
That was until I realized it would cost too much AND guests will most likely leave them on the table and what does one do with 200+ birds nests??
Any suggestions? I’d like to stick with edible but don’t want it to look like easter either. I do make a mean oreo truffle (okay so my 2yr old could make it) but they are delish. I thought about making those BUT 1) doesn’t tie into my theme and don’t know how I’d shape them into lil eggs and 2) when the heck will I have time for such shortly before my wedding.
I did try to make birds nests from brown paper bag but it was yet another failed DIY. HELP!

What about sugar cookies? You could make them in the shape of birds and have each guests name on them as the place holders or just decorated.

@OneLove04210: GREAT idea…wanna make them for me? 🙂 I do really like that idea especially with the names however I’m not sure when I’d find the time nor patience to make them look as pretty as I’d like.

Here are some links to purchase birds nests. Some are less than a dollar purchased in bulk.
Here are a couple of instructions to make your own
“Bird Nest: I found an easy way to make a birds nest. 1) get a tuft of Spanish moss two times as big as your nest will be. 2) roll it into a ball in your hand (roll harder for the nest to be tighter). 3) flatten the ball between your palms. 4) dribble glue in the center of the ball. 5) use your pinkie or whatever finger to push a sitting place for the bird in the center. The glue will dry and leave the depressed place permanent.”
The spanish moss would make inexpensive bird’s nests.

@julies1949: THANK YOU so much for all your research! I will definetely check out all those links. I did come across that spanish moss idea but completely forgot about it. I also didn’t know if it would be kinda gross to have your candy lying directly on spanish moss??
I did just come across another idea but again….time so purchased nests would be my preference but these are cute and you can’t really screw these up

Sorry I didn’t mean to make it look like we were hijacking that other post. That said, I love the little birdseed heart PP posted. That would be really cute. Or how about bird shaped cookie cutters? Not sure what your budget for favors is so I don’t know if that will be too expensive too.

So you could make eddible nest by making rice crispys (use the chocolate kind) I would try it firsy to see if they are formal enough

Oooh what about these cute little bird houses? For how many you would need to order it would only cost you about $1.06 per favor. The site says that for 12+ cases of 12 it is only $11.40.
ETA: should mention they are favor boxes not little wood bird houses.

Use chow mein noodles and cocoa crispies to make the nests. They are so yummy and fun!
