So I had a major reality check today.

Went bridesmaid dress shopping with my MOH. We hit up all the wedding stores that sold most major wedding brands (Alfred Angelo, Venus, Jasmine, and the like). I am on a super tight budget and cannot afford to pay for my BM's dresses, so its SUPER important to me to ensure that the dresses we look for are inexpensive. I asked my BMs to set a budget they felt comfortable with, and the magic number is $150, including alterations (if needed). I think that is more than fair :)

So going into the stores - almost all the dresses started at 175-200$ and up. And they just can't swing it (and I don't feel they should have to!). Problem is, Canada doesn't have awesome discount bridal options like David's Bridal, so I need to work out a plan B!

Sooo - anyone have any suggestions besides David's Bridal, Nordstrom's, or Macy's (none of these stores exist in Canada). I thought of E-bay, but I think the trick is it would be hard to get the same gown for everone. I was hoping for tea length, chocolate brown dresses. But I am open to other ideas.

I know most of the posters on this forum are American, but hopefully you guys can give me a hand :)

I don't really know what there is in Canada, but could you order from Seattle? Maybe make a weekend out if it, but do your research before you head to the shops.

I really wish I had a better answer for you.  I got eden BM dresses style 7266, the price came out to $130/each.

Can your order from Ann Taylor or J Crew?  Both websites have coupons from time to time (you just missed a 40% off from Ann Taylor).  With coupons the dress would be in the right price range.

Have you tried RW&Co, they are not a wedding store per se, but I purchased my bridesmaids dresses on clearance that were $100 (canadian of course) full price, and we got the one for $39 and the other for 49$ as they were different styles.  RW&Co also has an ongoing contest that you can post pictures of the girls in their dresses for a chance to win $2500 plus a $500 in store shopping credit... so you potentially could even MAKE money :)  Good luck

Was just going to also recommend RW&Co. They have great dresses there. Also check out Banana Republic [esp if you have an outlet store near you].

You may want to visit the site of Paris Bridal Outlet which is based out of Unionville Ontario, they just opened an online shop. I believe its parisbridaloutlet.com

    good luck!

RW and Co! I never really thought of that option - I will have to check it out!

I also spent some time looking at Craigslist today and found a couple of really nice dresses, so that may work out as well!

@lrwedd - Regarding heading to Seattle: I could do this, but only my MOH lives in Vancouver and could go with me. The rest of my BMs live across Canada, so I would have to order a size for them based on measurements - and if they didn't fit, then I would have a heck of a time returning them! Plus there is the issue with bringing them across the border if I only head down for the day - I would have to pay duty on them. But I still may consider this option if the price is right.

@texasmeridith - I will check out those websites too. Perhaps with the coupon the price would be right!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Hopefully something will work out :)

2nd the RW& CO they actually have a sign there mentioning something about bridal parties.  Also not sure if you have a Jacob near you - they also have a lot of dresses.  I was recently in a wedding and we ordered from JCREW for under 100$ (on sale) note kind of a pain b/c you can't try on... good luck i have the same ordeal to deal with soon! (once i pick colours :)

Okay, I know you said you don't want Nordstrom...but.. I was also looking for tea length and brown...and struck gold at Nordstrom. Just thoguht I'd share..

Both of my bridesmaids are in different states and they were able to place their orders over the phone (or online, but they got free shipping if they ordered through phone or at store). They didn't have the exact dresses at the store, but they both tried on 2 other similar styles made by the same designer to check their size and then placed their order over the phone. If you can find atleast the same designers dresses there at a local department store, perhaps you could have them do the same. I'm sure they'll ship to Canada.

The best part is that a lot of the dresses are going on sale now and when they both called to order their dresses that were supposed to be $138 each, they found out they were only $74 and change including tax!

Again...if you don't find another option...might be worth a try.
