Hi! We're having our tiny reception up in mckinney but when I first started planning I looked online at a few hotels downtown, one that had 360° views of downtown, i sooo wanted to have it there at night... But not practical for our budget or 35 pp guest list. I didn't check into pricing or anything but I know there were a few hotels downtown that looked awesome :) ill try to find some names for you. I'm not a real tx girl either so all the 'tx rustic stuff' isn't my thing either!
The magnolia hotel, they have a few different spaces, one that is for smaller groups under 100pp. Good luck!

I've just asked friends on facebook to send me places as well, we're also planning a Dallas wedding on a budget! I can let you know!
And check out this post, there were some good ones on here :)

We're getting married at the Scottish Rite Library & Museum downtown, by the farmers market. It's a historical building and absolutely beautiful inside.
You might consider the Trinity River Audubon Center. It's quite affordable, and the great hall area is really awesome-looking! It has a very modern but eco-friendly vibe to it. It's fairly affordable as far as Dallas venues come, too.
Have you considered Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake? Since it's owned by the city, it's less expensive than a lot of other places, plus you can bring in your own caterer/alcohol.
Check out the Heritage Ranch in Mckinney the venue is beautiful and resonable.
I don't know how big you are thinking, but have you checked Avanti - Fountain Place? I have no idea what they run on weekends or any other time, but they do have the fountain/water garden thing going on!
I bet I know which schools you teach for, and I LOVE them. They are amazing and inspiring and I LOVE everything they are doing.

I need some suggestions on venues in Dallas that are reasonable. My fiance and I are both teachers at a charter school near downtown so we're on a pretty tight budget. We'll have a church wedding but we're looking for a place for the reception that has character. I love water, fountains, waterfalls and want a place that isn't just the run of the mill Texas trees on a lake (it's pretty and all but I'm not a Texas girl so it's just not my thing.) I've never even helped plan a wedding so I could really use the advice of some the brides and brides to be that are further ahead than we are! It will be a small wedding, possibly not even 100 people so it doesn't need to be huge. We've found a few places we really like but they all have $5k food minimums so we're thinking maybe there are some less well advertised/well known places that offer things at a lower price? Any help/advice is appreciated! Thanks
