I need some crowd-sourced wisdom My wedding is 3 months away. I’ve got all of the vendors engaged (except hair and makeup), wedding dress purchased, bridesmaids dealt with, I just have some odds and ends to tie up. I trust my vendors and they are top notch, but I really want a coordinator for the day of. Darling Husband and I live in London, England currently and we may be moving before the wedding- bad timing for sure. Most of my guests are from out of town. The venue and caterer have eaten up a big portion of our budget, but we could spare an extra 500-800 dollars to get someone to just coordinate the ceremony and the beginning of the dinner to make sure things go smoothly. Any suggestions about vendors? Should I approach my florist and/or caterer to see if they provide those services for an extra charge?

@annaclaire: I would ask your caterer or venue and see if they can do that for you – my caterer is acting as DOC. You want someone who is going to be there all night. You may be able to find someone who is a dedicated DOC as well – that price range sounds reasonable for someone who is just there to run the show and doesn’t have to actually plan anything.

for me, a staff person from the venue provided DOC services. there was no extra charge for this.

The staff person from our venue served as coodinator. She handled the setup and met/coordinated with vendors and made sure meal service went smoothly. Then, DH’s cousin made sure all of the vendors got paid (we gave him the final payment checks) and handled some seating issues – moving people around when we had a couple of no-shows and some surpise +1s.
I do wish I’d hired my own coordinator though. I didn’t want to spend the extra money but I wish I’d had someone to corral my family and make sure things started on time.
