    Hi all,

I need to choose the right catholic priest for my wedding in november. But not sure how I should approach, or what to do.

    Any suggestions?

Are you or your fiance Catholic/attend church/have a parish? That would be a good place to start. If the answers to these questions are no, why do you need a Catholic priest? I'm not trying to be facetious, I'm genuinely curious.

    Hi Bee

Yes I am catholic... however have not been to my own church for a while, due to staying overseas.

Trying to get back to the routine... of going to church every sunday now.

The parish office have asked me to find a catholic priest to witness our wedding... and state if we dont find the priest that we are familiar with then it's not really good... they stated that they can help us to find, but the priest that they fine will not be happy since they will think that we are not true to the religion etc...

    Thanks for helping.

    cheers

I've never heard of a parish requiring you to find a priest.  Usually the parish requires you to use their priest unless you obtain special permission.  Did you explain that you have been living overseas and are trying to establish a parish home?

Have you tried calling other parishes in your area to see what their requirements are to get married in their parish?

Hmm, that's weird that the parish priest is not available. One thing you could try is check if there is a Catholic monastary nearby. They often have priests who visit nearby churches when their parish priests need help. If you're still not having any luck, I would either visit or call the diocese cathedral office and explain your situation. And, oh! Deacons can also witness Catholic wedding ceremonies if you choose not to have a full Mass. Is that an option?

    Hi Bees,

    Thanks for helping!

I think coz i have booked it with the catholic diocese cathedral, and thats why they require me to find a catholic priest of my domicile...

And since I am from Hong Kong, perhaps thats different to other countries? I'm seriously not sure.

I will certainly talk to the parish office again....i didn't really explain my situation.. since just dealing with the application yesterday...

    sigh so complicated...

    thanks again.
