If you find a professional lab willing to work with retail clients they can do that work for you.

Do you have a copyright release from the original photographer?

To have this professionally done you would either have to contact your photographer and have them do it, or have them release the copyright so someone else could manipulate the images.  If you don’t have either of these, the only thing you could do would be look for a family friend who plays around with photoshop and ask them to give it a shot.

You need to check with your photographer. Chances are everything you have is edited, and a select few from the photographer are additionally enchanted. However, you most likely have a print release, not a full copyright release. If you do not have FULL copyright, it’s against copyright to edit someone else’s work.

Mpix.com, which is the retail side of a professional lab, will do some retouching for you, such as stray hair removal. They can also color correct your photos.

@78h2o:  The lab is where your actual photo prints come from.  🙂  They do everything from digital artwork, film processing (yes, still), to printing giant canvases and making mugs with your face on them.  Some are willing to work with retail clients, some are not (only wholesale to the photog who sells it to you).  The good ones have good digital artists on staff and can do just about anything to a photo.

My family owns a lab – if you want to know more you can ask me, but I don’t want to push them on anyone.  They do work with retail clients, but they always check for a release if you aren’t a photographer.  Any good lab will so you need that first.

@78h2o:  Assuming the photographer gives you permission to do so, there are a number of image outsourcing companies that you might be able to hire to edit the images.  Ideally you’re going to want to have RAW files vs. JPEG.

here are a few examples:

ShootDotEdit

http://colorati.com/

I haven’t used any of them personally, but I do know some photographers who do. Whether or not they’d do work for a non-photographer I am not sure, but if you had some sort of written release from the other photographer they probably would.

Are they JPGS or RAW files? If JPGS, editing will be limited. What someone charges will depend on how extensively you want them edited. If it’s just general exposure/contrast/levels, it probably won’t be crazy, but if you want blemishes removed, skin, hair, clothes etc touched up and so on, it gets pricey in a hurry!

I’m a graphic designer for a living. Photo editing is my specialty. I dont think I have time to do 1000 photos, but if its legally okay to edit them, i could maybe help for like 1 or 2, or 3 pics.  🙂 let me know.

Hello!

I may be a little late, but I work at http://www.greenmountainfoto.com and would be happy to discuss editing your photos.  If interested, you can contact me through the website (“contact us”) to discuss your needs.  Because of the large volume of photos you would like to have touched up, you can consider the price negotiable.  Hi-res Jpegs are fine.

Cheers.
