Sorry for the rant but I seriously need to vent!
So basically, my friend’s fiancee decided to copy my wedding invitations. A few weeks ago he had told me that he and his fiancee had been stressed about wedding invitations and what not. I told him that I had recently started a small business on the side, hand making invitations and I’d be glad to give them a few pointers so they can do it themselves. I took time out of my busy schedule to teach them a few “tricks of the trade” and even made a quick mock up for them (totally different from mine) in hopes of inspiring their creative juices and get them to create something original for themselves. I had no idea I was basically giving his fiancee an instruction manual on how to copy mine!
A few weeks later, I was shocked and upset to see just how much she copied! When I talked to her about it, she refused to ad mit that she had taken my ideas and was unapologetic about it. I told her that it seemed like it was certainly more than a coincidence that our invitations looked so similar.
I used Scriptina as my primary font and searched but used a different one for the ampersand (&). I chose to use Mistral because I found the Scriptina version too loopy. She too ended up having a similar ampersand and claims it came from Scriptina. She also found a very similar stamp and heat embossed it on the same section I did – similar effect. With so many similarities, I’m completely flabbergasted that she still has the nerve to deny everything! Aside from the fact that mine are blue and hers are red, they’re basically identical!
Here are some pictures of our inserts (the announcement part has too much personal info so I won’t post those):

That ampersand is a Mistral font not Scriptina.
Now maybe it’s just me, but I certainly see too many similarities for these things to just be mere coincidence. I’m a little pretentious, so I decided to spell out the full French for RSVP as some of our guests had no idea where the term originated. Hmm, funny, she did it too and claims that all the samples online do it this way too. NOT! She also heat embossed a similar phrase on the inside of the pocketfold as well. And she used the same combination of fonts to achieve the same look but claimed she only used one, Scriptina. If it’s all just a coincidence, then why bother going through the trouble of switching into a different font for the ampersand and using similar stamp to heat emboss on the same section of the pocketfold? She also copied word for word the text from my accomodations insert.
See, I used the ampersand from the Mistral font to get the plus sign effect. You can’t just use Scriptina, they come out very differently.
I know that immitation is the highest form of flattery but did she really need to lie about it when I asked her? All she had to do was admit to liking my idea and therefore copying it and that would be the end of it. But the fact that she’s blatantly lying about it on top of my help, time and stolen ideas, is what hurts the most. She’s insulting my intelligence which is adding to my being upset. She comes off so shady to me now!
Is it me or do you guys see it too?
