I sit in a small room with one other person. We typically eat lunch at our desks. As it is a quiet, small room I try to bring in foods that are not obnoxious. She, on the other hand, is constantly crunching, snorting, snapping, popping–you name it. It’s like she tries to bring in the loudest foods imaginable. One morning she popped open a bag of Doritos at 9am, so not only did I get to hear her breakfast, but I got to smell it, too. She eats about 6 times a day, but one day she broke the record eating 14 times!!! It’s usually something loud that is wrapped in cellophane, so I am very familiar with the loud sound of cellophane being opened, and that is usually my cue to turn on my music (if it’s not already on). I put my headphones in to try to mask the sound but today she is eating something so crunchy that even my headphones cannot tune it out!! I am grossed out by any eating/slobbering noises. I don’t like the sound of spit, be it other people kissing, eating, whatever. She can take something so simple as a cookie and make gushing, slobbering noises with it.
I am venting to you guys because I don’t want to vent to anyone here. I don’t want to embarrass or offend her but it is seriously grossing me out. Nobody else sits in here so they don’t know how bad it is. It has gotten to the point where I sometimes have to leave the room because it is so loud/gross. I try to make it look like I’m going to the printer or something so it’s not obvious.
There isn’t much I can do but deal, so I just had to vent this to you guys. Thanks for listening!!!

I have this exact problem.
But right now I shouldnt even talk. I am an asshole. He is on ramadan this month and I still eat at my desk. So I guess that excuses all his loud slurping/chewing for the rest of the year.

OMG I have a coworker near me right now who keeps popping bubble gum!! It’s like, the gum spends more time out of his mouth than in!! A grown man, in a suit, smacking away with gum. I’m like, how do you not realize how loud and rude you are?!

Ugh, gross! What bothers me the guy who loudly blows his nose all during the lunch hour. He’s clearly eating something that makes his nose run (I can usually smell it too) and the sound of him blowing his nose constantly really grosses me out. I have to eat at my desk most days because I am totally overworked so I feel kind of trapped when this happens. I wish we were allowed to work from home more often!!

That is one of my pet peeves! I hate eating noises… The slurping, chomping, and crunching. The worst was when my mom’s second husband refused to let us talk at the dinner table. We could hear him wheezing through his nose while he ate. Combine that with the slurping he did and I went crazy!

Omg, I feel for you. I really do. I used to sit in an office with my boss and she was the same way. Actually, she might of been worse. After many meals she’d have really bad gas because of the speed at which she ate. She was disgusting. And sooooo loud. It was awful. The sound of other people eating is a pet peeve of mine so I know I was really sensitive to it but other people often teased her about it but she never got the hint.
I wish there was some advice to give you 🙁

I can’t stand eating noises either! But even worse, I had a coworker who was constantly clearing his throat and snorting snot back up his nose. I seriously would gag on a regular basis listening to that. I would have been SO much happier just listening to him blow his nose instead of trying to be quiet and snorting it back up there. So gross.

One of my biggest pet peeves ever. Ugh.

My husband does this and it drives me insane. I can hear him from another room with the door shut and the t.v. on. lol I can’t even stand my own eating noises, let alone someone else’s. I’m the kind of person who apologizes to the people around me if I’m about to eat an apple or some other crunchy food.
One’s husband is not exactly the the same as a co-worker but it’s still incredibly annoying. I have tried to talk to him and he stops for a little while and then goes right back to slurping his food, even salad! How is that even possible???
There’s a part of me that is so disgusted by it and I feel I’m doing him a favor by making him have better table manners. But then the other part of me doesn’t want to be a total nag, riding his ass every night. I don’t really know what to do and it’s probably the worst issue I have with him.

I used to have a co-worker who cut their nails in the office next to mine but I could hear her snipping away. Gross.
I can’t stand when then “hens” sit in the lunchroom and b*tch about their husbands.

@faye0314: OMG, this is the one thing I ultimately can’t stand. I shudder when I hear this! There is a girl on one side of me who does this whenever she’s sick and it makes me want to barf!
