My daughter got married June 2012. We had the same concerns regarding an outdoor wedding (she decided on an indoor reception). It was hot and humid that day, but the ceremony was beautiful and there was a nice breeze from the lake. Luckily there were no bugs to speak of. No one complained and guests always have the option of declining the invitation for what ever reason (s) they might have.

It all depends where its at and what state. I just got married on july 21 2012 and my now husband wanted an outdoor wedding. I am glad it was indoors. It was so humid and hot and to take pics outside my makeup artist had to retouch it up due to the sweat.

we live in upstate new york and the wedding is rustic vintage and its a very simple wedding and we found a restored barn it sounds shabby but is gorgeous just no air conditioning just stuck for ideas on what to do or if im happy with it to just stick with it or find somethong else

That sounds gorgeous! Since it sounds like you haven’t picked a date yet – do you have to get married in June? What about getting married in the fall, when it’s a little cooler? I know spring in upstate New York can be unpredictable since you don’t know how late it will snow, but fall is beautiful right? I understand wanting to have a rustic outdoor wedding, my Fiance and I were dead-set on that. We are having our outdoor wedding in Houston when the weather should be mild in Houston.
Could you have an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception? Or could you set up enough fans to help cool people off, and maybe provide people with spritz bottles? I don’t know what you’d do about the flies, though, as I guest I would find that a little annoying. But there have to be ways to repel flies right? I would be most worried about the heat.

@MsVoyageur: my brother is getting martied in the fall =/ but its deffinately something to consider when it come to an indoor reception all the banquet places arent rustic and the one place i did find costs ridiculous amount but i may just have to keep looking but thank you!

What is the source of the flies? I would be more concerned about the heat in a barn in Upstate NY in June. Any way you can bring in portable fans?

My MOH’s wedding was July 31st 2 yrs ago, it was an outside late afternoon ceremony with outside reception at her mom’s country home. It was torture, the weather, thankfully co-operated and didnt rain, but we had one of the hottest days of the summer at #6 degrees celcius not including the humidity. Everything worked out tho, the ceremony was fairly short, and thankfully the bride had us in short dresses, I can’t imagine how hard it was for her in a ballgown satin dress. As long as you are ok with guest arriving in shorts and t-shirts and are considerate of your wedding party and put them in short dresses and keep the ceremony short, everything will be fine.
