- Wedding: September 2013 - B&B
Alrightyyyy. Sorry this will be long, but I need advice! I still have a year until my wedding (ok, ok… 364 days), BUTTT I saw something today that means I need to make a decision! For reference, here is my engagement ring:
It may be hard to tell from this photo (only one on my comp, sorry) but it has a split shank, with pave diamonds only going to about where you see it disappearing next to my other finger. (So partway).
I have looked on and off at rings since Feb when we got engaged, and I have had a very hard time finding something I liked. And then I thought about this: Two very thin bands that are partial eternity. Basically they would match one side’s width of the split shank, and i wanted them small and simple since I wanted one for each side (i like the symmetry.) And I also love the idea of sapphires! Since blue is our favorite color and we are getting married in Sept. So, something like this:
And of course, i liked the look of one on either side. Now, I recently quit my horrific job and got new employment, that I love, for much less. I am of course looking for another position that pays more (after all, got a wedding to pay for!) so money has been a problem recently. Therefore, I was thinking… my mother has a very very thin plain yellow gold band that she gave to me. It was hers from her marraige to my dad (they divorced when I was three.) Again, you cant tell from this photo, but my ring has scrollwork under the center stones (when you look at it from the side) and the scrollwork is in yellow gold. So I thought when the time came, I would just purchase another small, thin yellow gold band to match my parents’, and it would be pretty and affordable. Also, it doesn’t bother me that my parents divorced… I am still very close with both of them, it’s somewhat amicable between them, and I thought the sentiment of having something from “where I came from” and a new one for “where we’re going” would be sweet!
Until today. Found this at Kohls:
OMG I fell in love. It may be hard to tell from this pic, but the side of this has scrollwork similar to my ring. It’s from Vera Wang’s bridal collection. I tried it on on a whim and felt a happy little jump im my tummy. And, this is big for me… I EVEN LIKE IT ON ITS OWN. It has scrollwork almost identical to my engagement ring! I have been told by many (and I can’t deny it’s good advice) buy one band I like now, and get the second one later for an anniversary gift when we can afford it. But I’ve been stuck on the symmetry. Kohls is having a sale, and this upcoming Wed is their 15/20/30% scratch off. So basically, the ring will be anywhere from 40-55% off, PLUS then 15-30% off of that! And I have a kohls charge. It’s the ONLY “credit” card I own. Frankly, if I got lucky enough, IF the ring was still 55% off on wed, AND I got a 30% off, I could afford two since I would put it on my charge. Even so, I love it on its own.
So here’s my dilemma. There’s this amazing deal on a ring I love, ON its own (and if I got lucky I could have two anyway.) But I do love sapphires, and love the sentiment of getting sapphire rings (one for the wedding and one later, NOT preferable, but it’s the only way I’ll afford it) because its our fave color and we’re getting married in Sept, OR I could really save money and get just one small thin yellow gold band, and I’d have one from “Mom and Dad” and one for my “future”, and I think that’s a cute sentiment too… however I’m fairly certain I’d try to update that in the future as well.
What to do?!?! Please help with your advice or what you would do.
