I’d keep it casual, as it’s not a mandated wedding event:

“Before the reception, feel free join us at  ____ Bar at 5:00 to mingle with the bride and groom.”

One quick Q though, how is meeting at the bar different than your cocktail hour? I know I might be a little confused as a guest, so just wondering!

@smurphy0806:  Got it. Follow up Q – are you serving food during your cocktail hour?

@smurphy0806:  Understood. 🙂 So my advice would be to definitely make sure that your guests know that 1) the cocktail hour will have an open bar and 2) there will be food. You probably don’t want them filling themselves up at the bar before they go to the cocktail hour since you’re paying for that! Right?

And then in terms of wording…”We’ll be at ___ Bar at 5:00 PM if you’d like to mingle with us before our 6:30 cocktail hour, which will feature appetizers and an open bar.” Something like that? So your guests know they can meet you at the bar but they also know what to expect at your cocktail hour?

@smurphy0806:  Sure thing! I hope that helps at least a little!
