My FI is a server at a local sports bar/restaurant. He makes pretty good money just waiting tables (he’s finishing his degree).
Anyway, I used to be a bartender when I was in college. I loved the money, but hated the late nights and mandatory weekends.
I work a full time, 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday job that doesn’t pay all that much (it’s technically an internship).
The restaurant my FI works at is in desparate need of a bartender. I’ve been out of the game a few years, but I’ve toyed with the idea of getting back into it to make some extra cash.
FI dropped my name to the bar manager at his work and he apparently seemed very interested in getting me in to talk to him about this opening.
I don’t know what to do bees! If I said yes, I would only work two days a week- probably a week night and a weekend night. And I would be adamant about being the first one cut so I wouldn’t be there all night.
I would love the extra money, but do I really want to give up my weekends?
What would you do?

@MichiganGirl24: it depends. What are your plans post-internship? How much longer do you have before it’s over? I would take the 2nd job unless it cut into my real job time or significantly hindered my sleep or quality time with DH.

Are you guys strapped financially? I used to work two jobs (7 days a week) and it was really hard. So, my initial advice is dont do it unless you have to.
if you do decide to do it, keep in mind that your FH (probably) needs the job there, and he is putting his reputation on the line by giving them your name. So, you need to be super responsible about giving enough notice if it doesn’t work out, bc if you realize its not working out and just up and leave, that could put his job at risk, too.

I decided not to take it. FI found out that if I worked during the week (which I most likely would have been required to), I wouldn’t be off until at least midnight, which is just not doable when I have to be up for my “real” job at 5:30am.
We aren’t strapped for cash, but we really only have enough to pay the bills. We don’t have money to go out to dinner, see movies, etc, but that’s okay. Some extra cash would be nice, but not at the expense of my weekends or rest. My internship ends in June, and I *should* have a full-time, well-paying job by August. If I do, we’ll be doing well as far as finances go.
Thanks for your help!
