Hey ladies!
I just went for my centerpiece mock up this weekend.. we are going for sort of an Arabian theme and I want lots of palm trees and lushness.. so I gave her my inspiration pic, and here is what she came up with.. what do u think?
Inspiration pic:
Mine:

We opted to NOT have the crystals... but tell me what you think! I'm kind of panicking because I feel it looks off, and they're costing a lot of money.. let's hear it girls!
Thecenterpiece itself is nice. I am not too keen on the things spread out on the morrors. Maybe you can put just candles there or something. And I actually like the crystals!
Don't care for the mirrors at all but it looks great otherwise. However do you care that it isn't as full as the inspiration pic? Or do you prefer that it be scaled down as in the trial?
I think it looks very close. The original is a little fuller and taller though, and I am in agreement, I don't really like whatever it is that is on the mirror.
I agree with @prncssDva - I like the centerpiece (vase, etc) but not so sure about what's on the mirrors. I like the candles but is it a cut mango that's around the vase? It looks like fruit to me.
LOVE IT! The first thing that comes to my mind is awesome!!
thanks guys for your opinions!!!
yes it is fruit.. its actually a cactus pear cut open, and dates, dried apricots as well as nuts on the mirror.. sort of to evoke that arabian lushness with the fruit and palms.. does that make a bit more sense? I know its kind of random.. but she is going to drape the ceiling with lanterns and fabric so it would sort of look like a casbah or oasis..
I feel like it's too spindly. The one in your inspiration pick is definitely fuller. I also don't like the random stuff on the mirror, it feels haphazard and a bit of an afterthought.
The greenery at the top is great, but I think you need a bit of a wider vase a few more flowers to fill it out and getting closer to your inspiration.
I think yours is WAY better than the inspiration pic! I like the more narrow vase and taller greenery too. Glad to see other things/colors on the mirrors...everyone does just candles and this adds a different, more unique element. Great job!
It's nice and different, but I like it with just candles on the mirrors.
I think if you're going to use the mirror under the vase then you need to use round mirrors to go with your tables, the rectangle mirror looks off. I also dont like the fruit thrown on there at all, it looks random to me. If you want the fruit, why not do some of the tables with your dramatic arrangements, and then do the rest of the tables with various bowls and different height cake plates with exotic fruits & nuts with flowers (maybe orchids) scattered about. Candles would be nice too. Good luck!
The stuff scattered across the mirrors... okay, it just looks off to me. Maybe it's just the picture, but I like just the candles better.
I don't mind the stuff on the mirror at all, personally. I think if you draw those warm colors out in other areas of your decor, it will tie together well.
If I made any change, it would only be in getting lusher looking greenery for the very top. BUT, I don't think that it matters a super ton.
Can I be completely honest? At first look it gave off an 80s vibe to me :/ I can't exactly figure out why exactly I get that vibe though. I think with some tweaking it could look FABULOUS :)
*sigh* back to the drawing board..
Im trying to communicate my concerns to her but she's very eclectic and different to deal with.. I'm just so stressed that I'll spend all this money and everyone at the wedding will think its ugly.. argh
I like the centerpiece itself but not the fruit etc thats on the mirror, thats definitely what throws me off
Ugly? I think they look really sharp and wouldn't give it a second thought. I think you really should let her run with them. They're quite different and people will be impressed,IMO.
Ooh, that's really neat! It's very different, but fits your theme really well. At first, the fruit threw me off, but when I saw the whole thing, it made much more sense visually. Cool!
I think it looks very similar to your inspiration photo! I'm glad you opted out of the crystals-- its just too much going on. The actual floral arrangement is lovely!
I think the mirror/fruit are unnecessary. A round mirror would probably look best, but I believe you could get away with just the votives!!
It's nice but I'm not sure about the fruit.
I love it and it does look like the inspiration pic... but the fruits? You can do without them. And I actually like it with the hanging cyrstals :)
I really think you guys are close to pulling off a wonderful centerpiece! I love your inspiration piece and I think she did a great job. The ONLY thing I'm not crazy about is the tall, thin candles. I think they compete with the main centerpiece. The candle votives with the fruit and nuts help to tie in the theme and anchor the centerpiece but the tall, thin candles throw the entire look off a bit. If you were to remove them, it might pull everything together a bit more. (And I do like the crystals!)
I think it is fine the way it is if you're ready to give it a rest.
Is that the tablecloth color it would be on? A pop of color underneath could be helpful.
It could also work without the mirrors.
I think you did a really great job coming very close to your inspiration with your own twist.
Think about it; you're going to have all dishes and everything on the table to fill out the table. Will be good! :)
well....i think that it kinda looks like the inspiration pic but there are some changes that i would make (if it were my centerpiece). the green leaf things that are under the white flowers- they've got to go. it needs a bit more white flowers to make it more full. and, the square mirror? um....go with a circle one if u want to keep the mirror- i personally don't care for the mirror. as for the stuff on the mirror, i would lose the pebbles and petals, along with those silver birthday candle looking things. lol. i would add more votive candles though. and, if you want to keep the flower petals, white would be better. the table linen is ok...the chair needs to be fixed....it looks messy and because it looks messy, it looks cheap (not ur fault i'm sure)....so yea- that's my take on everything. of course crystals make everything look better but it's ok if you don't use them. the vase is ok too....oh yea- if i say ok...my ok is a good ok so don't fret... :D
I actually really like it, especially knowing the theme and that the fruit, etc. isn't just a random thing. I do like it with the crystals though. I think they bring teh whole thing together well.
um, are those fake flowers? they look crazy shiny.
1) the fruit is too sparse, it just looks awkward, but I like the idea. Maybe if she swathed some rich fabric around under the base? with the fruit on it?
2) palm/fern/green things are shorter than in your inspiration pics, so they stick up instead of drooping over
3) it may partially be photo quality that is deterring you. the florescent lit snap shot versus the professionally editted and color corrected wedding photo. the two are really very similar in concept and execution. :)
As with many other people,
Don't like the mirror with all the "scatters". In general I'm personally not a big fan of it. If you were to do the mirror I agree with the round one is better than a square one.
If the decor comes to what you're saying then I think the tropical fruit scatter might make more sense.
And the top fern/greenery def needs to be fuller, IMO.
Pretty good mock trial though!
I think it is very close. I think your inspiration picture is wider in the vase area but I think your narrower vase will actually be better for guests being seated around it.
See if they can add some more white flowers and greenery to make it fuller. I agree that the other stuff on the table distracts from the main centerpiece.
To respond to a few questions:
Those taller things on the mirror are my favors.. they wouldnt be arranged like that, but they are egyptian perfume bottles, not candles.. I need to figure out a way of displaying them..
On the mirror are cactus pears, dates, dried apricots, nuts, etc - to evoke that "arabian" feel..
The tablecloth and chair covers are not part of it because I haven't picked linens yet. I get standard ivory damask linens and chair covers at my hall, but I'm unsure right now what to do with linens.. I may upgrade to satin? I really don't know what to do.
The flowers are not fake, they are real - and the photo quality is crap because it was taken off of FH's iphone.. which doesnt have such a great camera..
I agree with the circular mirror totally, and agree with cutting the leaves off the hydrangeas on the bottom because it looks very odd. I asked her about using a wider and longer leaf, and I emailed her my inspiration pic again..
I was thinking of using a clear wide vase and wrapping a palm leaf along the inside instead of the silver vase.. at this point i'm SO confused and I don't know what to do at all. I need her to do another mock up with those changes, so we'll see..
Thanks SO MUCh for the opinions! keep em coming!
Attached are a pic of the perfume bottles that you can't quite make out in the picture..
It seems close but not quite...the inspiration picture is more modern and clean looking. The mock-up looks more cluttered with all the stuff on the mirror and the flower/ leaves arrangement looks more frumpy instead of modern.
When you were looking at these, did you actually sit at the table and look at everything as if you were a guest? I think if you make it any fuller with either flowers or greenery, you'll be having some issues with everything being in the way. That's why to me,having the ferns at the top coming out higher rather than wider make much more sense.
With the arrangement being round, the rectangular mirror makes it more interesting. Love the perfume bottles too. You can really tell how much thought you're putting into this.
To me, what make the inspiration so pretty is that it is simple. I think with the extra stuff at the bottom, it's just too much. I would just go, vase, candles and mirror and that's all.
I think if you skip the fruit and the mirror, cut the greens below the hydranga and add a few more candles, it'll look great!
The mirror is what makes it look 80s (IMHO) and the fruit just seems kinda odd--it may work in person, but it seems off in the picture. The arrangement itself is really nice and elegant!
I would take away the fruit...it already looks gross in the pics...you don't know what will happen to it after 4+ hours....Other then that it's beautiful!!!
It's beautiful - but I think you need to simplify the base. All the little objects are distracting from the elegant simplicity of the arrangement. Also, try a small, round mirror. I think the large rectangular one is overwhelming the piece and making it feel unbalanced. LOVE the vase/leaves/flowers, though!
