Hi !!! I wanted to ask your opinion about my situation and if anyone has ever experienced something similar.
I got engaged over a year ago and my fiance is amazing. He bought me a great engagement ring. Yes.. I say “great” ..but not the engagement ring that I dreamt of… I got a 1.23 carat stone and even though it looks pretty decent on my 4.75 size fingers, I always wished to have a stone between 1.5-2 carat. I believe that it stands out so much more on your hand and people notice it alot more.
The band is knife edge and the prong setting are north/south/east/west. When we started shopping around for wedding bands, a big problem came up. Almost none of the prrong diamond wedding bands fit that style. There was always a gap between the two rings. My fiance didn’t like that and his jewler recommended that we change the setting (head) to a traditial 4 prong setting. He also recommended that we make it higher, so that the wedding band stones can sit flush.
After visiting another jewler, they said that my engagement ring only looks like a 1 carat, because of the way it’s currently mounted (n/s/e/w). They said that it makes the diamond look smaller. They also recommend resetting it, to give it a bigger effect. Do you find that’s true? However, redoing the band + buying a wedding band with stones would cost approximatly 5K.
We were dicussing upgrading the stone one day to something bigger. So, I had the idea of upgrading the stone now (something larger ; over 1.5 carat) and simply get a simple band to go with it. The upgrade would be anywhere between 7-8K. I don’t know what to do. I feel that I would be alot more happier with a bigger stone, rather then a large wedding band. What do you guys think? Is it worth it or not? Thanks dolls!
