Senario: We are having a small wedding (about 50 people) with a picnic /bbq reception at a friends cabin in the country. The one picnic table there seats about 10 people. We have a hand ful of folding chairs and were planning on making a few benches before for a total seat-ability of about 25-30 people. I need creative seating ideas for the others.
I was thinking about getting or making some picnic blankets in our wedding colours, they would work out to about 28$ a piece and if I made 1 for ever 4 people left I would need about 6-7 blankets which is a little bit out of my price range. I feel bad asking people to bring thier own chair but I also don’t know if we can afford to purchase a pile of chiars for one day… then what do we do with them afterwards?
Thoughts or ideas ladies?

I am doing something similar for mine. We are having a ~ 70 person camping wedding, in which about half of the attendees are staying in cabins locally because they don’t like to camp. I have some chairs, we have one picnic table, some folding tables, and I am asking my campers to bring over their camping chairs. I am also using the logs that are surrounding the site as seating, and doing the same thing as you – throwing nice vintage blankets over them for seating. You know your guests better than I do, but I was more worried that folks wouldn’t want to sit on the ground if they’re wearing something nice (or uncomfortable/unflattering when seated).

I understand your on a budget but you have to have seating for every guest and I wouldnt count picnic blankets as seating. Mabye look into logs or making your own benches with scrap wood.

Check out yard sales and such for quilts! And if you want something off the ground, what about throwing said quilt over a bale or two of hay? Somebody on here actually bought bag chairs from WalMart that they stenciled their name and date on and gave as favors.

Thank you ladies and good call on the vintage blankets, We have plans for about another 3 box benches which should seat another 9 people. and we can fill them with the blankets / decor on the way out so they are dual purpose.
@Jenbee: We are going to have quite a few children at our wedding and I am considering picnic blankets acceptable for seating ages 5-12, do you think that would be okay? (my thought being that a 5 year old has a difficuly time climbing in to a folding chair anyways) I totally agree with you that adults should have actual seating I just need to figure out a way to get them there,
@JenGirl: Love the chair/favor idea! going to start looking for reasonably priced chairs with free shipping right now!
