Hello ladies! My fiance and I are having a Catholic/Jewish ceremony. We have secured a priest but now need to find a rabbi/cantor who will also participate in the ceremony. Our wedding will be around 5 PM in June (which would still be Sabbath). I think originally I figured that if it's interfaith, I wouldnt have much of a problem finding a liberal rabbi who could do the ceremony and I believe I've heard this before, but am I mistaken? We will be getting married in the NY, Westchester area. Does anyone know if I am wrong or how to go about looking for a rabbi/cantor who can do a ceremony on Saturday? I'm also hoping not to go over busget in paying a rabbi and hoping to not spend more than $600-700, but we will if we have to. More importatntly, we need to find someone who can do it! Help!

I would suggest putting in a request via this form on InterfaithFamily.com.  They do warn you that having the ceremony on Saturday before sundown may limit your choice of officiants.  However, you can at least get some referrals, and see what your options are.

Look into  joining a temple. We are in the same boat, Catholic/Jewish, 6 pm in June on a Saturday. We had found a few very expensive rabbis, but then FI's parnets joined a local reformed temple, and the cantor there is going to do our ceremony. it's free, less whatever fees they had to pay to join, I guess, but that's what we did.

They chose a very relaxed, reformed local temple and I think that made a difference, as in my expereince the Jewish half of things tends to be more concerned about interfaith  marriages.

Thanks ladies! Looks like this may take some time. I was thinking I may need to find a reformed rabbi, perhaps that's the first step, then figuring out cost....

    Hi -

I'm a Reform rabbi who lives in the San francisco Bay Area. Perhaps I can be of some help in getting you a referral.

    Regards,

    Rabbi Alan Levinson
