I posted this weekend–I had taken one hpt that was positive, but then 3 that were negative. I got a blood test at the doctor’s yesterday that came out negative. But my doctor said that she still will not rule out pregnancy for me because of my symptoms. I had sore boobs, but the soreness went away (now they just seem giant), I have an upset stomach/minor cramping, and instead of bleeding I have a thin, odorless white discharge. The doctor says that all these symptoms are signs of pregnancy so she suggests I proceed as if I were pregnant and if I don’t get my period within a week, I should return for another test.
I should mention in case you didn’t see my previous posts that this is totally unplanned and for a while my husband and I were upset about the possibility of getting pregnant–we want kids, but were hoping to wait until we’ve been married longer (its only been 2 months) and had more stable jobs. But at this point, I am not sure how I feel either way about the results, I just feel very confused. And the fact that the doctor is confused just makes me even more concerned/confused. I just want to know and since I have hypocondriac tendencies, the uncertainty is very much freaking me out. Oh well. I guess there is nothing that I can do but wait!
Thanks for “listening” to my vent. I hope all is well and you are getting the results you hope for!

Get a new doctor. Seriously.

@KatyElle: Ditto on that.
BUT I have heard of women whose pregnancies never show up on HPTs. I’m not sure if it would never show up in a blood test – that seems very uncommon.
However, since your doctor clearly isn’t offering, why don’t you request an ultrasound just to be sure?

My blood work said I wasn’t pregnant the entire way through my pregnancy so there is a chance. They scheduled an US to check it out because every other urine test was saying pregnant/ not pregnant lol.

It’s happened to women before, have you ever seen “I didn’t know I was pregnant”?
I don’t think you need a new doctor. Seems a correct way to proceed to me (not that it’s THE way, but a way).

I guess I just must have unrealistic expectations from my doctor. Because if my doctor said “Well you might be pregnant or you might not, wait a week and come back” and didn’t give me an ultrasound I’d go to someone else. My life would be on hold until I knew for sure.

Def get some more opinions! I’m so sorry that you are tortured with uncertainty esp. with your hypochondriac tendencies!
It will all work out for the best in the end!

why aren’t you getting an ultrasound?!!! I mean, duh. Your doctor sounds stupid.

didn’t you say in another thread thaht your doctor thought you had tumor, or is that another poster with similar issues?

There is certainly a chance that is isn’t showing up on the blood test yet (and honestly may never will – for a very small group of people, like the PP, it doesn’t).
I don’t think you need a new doctor. I think his plan to wait a week and re-test if you have no period makes 100% sense and would probably be the same course of action that the vast majority of doctors would take.

I think that was this thread:
I went back and checked and no update on that post or the poster.

No, I am not the tumor one! Thank goodness. That would be too much to handle!
I feel ok with waiting another week without an ultrasound. In my last post, I talked about how this is my first month off of birth control. While its unlikely, I think its possible that I had a faulty pregnancy test and that being off birth control is making my period late. I know that’s unlikely, but I think its possible. I also think its possible that I’m pregnant and something funky is going on with my hormones or something. I had a friend who had positive hpts and negative blood tests until like her 6th week, and she was fine. I also have a lot of friends who are OB/GYN’s who are telling me the same thing as my doctor. So I’m acting like I’m pregnant (vitamins, no alcohol, etc.), and if next week things are the same, then I can go in and get re-tested and/or an ultrasound. I don’t really feel like this is the doctor’s fault, more like my body is behaving incredibly weird.

oh okay good! I was about to go off on your doctor! lol. =/ sorry I just think they should give you an ultrasound.

I had a friend with a similar issue. She and her husband were trying to get pregnant, and her period was late. She took a few home tests, and they came out negative. Since her period still didn’t come, a week later, she went to the doc, and they did a test as well. It also came out negative. They actually gave her some drug to encourage her period to start (I’m not sure what it was). It still didn’t start. So she went back, they did another blood test, and lo and behold, it finally gave a positive result. She had been pregnant the whole time, and the tests just didn’t show it.
If your doc did an ultrasound at this early stage, would it even show anything, even if you were pregnant?

I would go somewhere, where they would do a ultrasound! For me having diabetes, it is a MUST know ASAP. But either way, I would still want to know as soon as I could. If that doctor couldn’t let me know I would go else where, where they could.
