So, I wasn’t aware of this until recently- but I guess we are allowed to negotiate the prices for different things at the reception site re: menu prices, hosted/open bar, etc. I was wondering if anyone out there has actually done this and when is a good time to do this? I have already chosen a venue for my reception and placed a deposit. We haven’t had the tasting yet, but I am wondering do we have to wait until then to negotiate prices?
I ask because I placed a deposit for the venue before my mother saw the venue in person (she was out of the country and other people were waiting for our date as well) When she recently saw it, it was being set up for a different event and basically looked like a storage room with boxes and speakers and furniture all over the place. She wasn’t pleased and felt that their prices were too expensive for the "feeling" of the venue. She understand that she should probably see it being prepared for a weddding… but in the meantime, she looked at some other places that she likes better and are a bit more inexpensive.
I LOVE our venue. it is modern and perfect for me and my FI. She is not going to make us change it if we don’t want to, but if I can get my site coordinator to negotiate some of the menu prices down for me, I am sure she will be more happy. So, my question is: My wedding is 10 months away, is it too early to ask my site coordinator to talk prices with me? Especially since we haven’t even tasted anything yet? Also, will the fact that I have already paid a deposit lessen my bargaining strength?
