    Hello my lovely fellow Hivettes!

Another quick question to throw at the willing - is it better to negotiate over email or face-to-face? I have made contact with a DJ that I think is FINALLY in our price range (because I'm a cheap-o bargain hunter and only want to spend 400). Problem is that he is 450 for the night. He has only emailed me once, and I'm wondering if I should wait to meet with him in person (out of town wedding so not til next month), see if I like him and THEN wheel and deal and ask for something more in my range (300-400 is what I'll say) or email him back now and try to negotiate a wee better price.

Case in point - any tips on successful negotiations? Any crazy success (or failure stories regarding vendor negotes?

(lol to start, I was looking at another DJ who quoted me 750 at first with a 150 discount if I booked by the next weekend - when I said I simply couldn't do the 600 dollar reduced price, he then dropped to 499! And this was one of the better known DJ's in the area!) Ah money.

As always, thank you all in advance!

My answer is depends.  Face-to-face you can see how receptive they are to negotiations - that way you can avoid getting to the point where they are just not going to go there.  But if you're only talking $50, I doubt he'll think its a deal breaker so maybe I'd float that number out there.

How disappointed will you be if he never e-mails you back?  What if he shoots down the negotiated price, are you still going to pay $450.  If you'd be very disappointed and would be willing to suck up the $450, I'd wait until the face-to-face meeting.
