We’re meeting with 2 caterers next week to discuss their proposals for our wedding. Both are pretty close in price but still higher than we want them to be (isn’t everything). One has already indicated that they’re willing to try and work with a budget so I know they’re willing to negotiate I just have no idea how to go about it with them. I would love some advice.
Our caterer will be providing All rentals (linens, flatwear, dishes..), All staff as well as all the food and drink.

Just remember that negotiating involves give and take. They might be able to give you a lower price, but it will involve reducing the scope of what they provide. It might be a good idea for you to come in with things you are willing to live without or to downgrade (cheaper linens, less options, less expensive food items). Good luck!

@cheebs: thanks! I’m totally willing to downgrade a lot of their proposed items, I just want to make sure that the price goes down accordingly!

@cheebs: +1 It’s less about negotiating and more :”give and take”. Most likely they aren’t going to just cut the price for the sake of cutting it. If they’re giving you a cheaper rate, most likely you’re going to have to sacrifice something. Give them a budget of what you can spend per person and ask them to give you 3 options of what they can do within that budget. From there you can wiggle things around to see what you can do.
