I have a major break out at the moment that I need to take care of and they rarely happen. Normally I would just go to the drug store and grab something but the closest drug store/grocery store/shopping center is 90 minutes away. I’m seriously in the middle of no where which is actually a nice break. I was checking for at home remedies and saw that neosporin or the generic antibiotic does a good job. Has anyone tried this?

The easiest way to combat the bacteria that cause occasional acne is heat. Take a nice hot shower, wash your face with a mild cleanser and then just let the water run over your face for a few minutes. If you’re not into that, you can make a small pot of boiling water and drape a towel over your head and steam your face, or soak a towel in hot water and apply to the affected area.

Neosporin isn’t really designed to penetrate skin… it can soak into a scab, and it can cover an open wound, but it’s not necessarily designed to penentrate acne. I googled and I see that some people have had little success, but I wouldn’t suggest it for a long term. Maybe a once or twice a month spot treatment, but using a product in a way that it wasn’t designed for could open yourself up to more serious issues, like the neosporin breaking down the natural resistance to bacteria on your skin, which could cause bacterial infections.
