I guess I needed some support from the hive about a custom set I’m having made. We had to redo my settings because we have to add a Fingermate to to my rings and they cannot accomodate palladium. We’re having a 2.2 carat cushion (originally in a look-alive Tiffany Novo style setting) wedding set changed out to a Scott Kay Luminaire setting with a custom-designed wedding band.
I ordered the setting from Scott Kay and it’s taking much longer than anticipated. They’re at least 2 weeks behind schedule and my jeweler still has to set the stone and add a Fingermate to the setting. So, already, I’m feeling antsy about the length of time this is taking. On top of that, I’m nervous because my stone is a cushion, but we’re having it set into a round halo. I was assured by Scott Kay and my sales person that it could be done, since my cushion is a perfect pillow shape and not elongated, but because there are no pictures of what that would look like, I’m feeling hesitant about how it will turn out. They also cannot provide a CAD, which would help me feel better about it. Additionally, because they have to add the Fingermate, I have concerns about being able to see the hinges on the band while my ring is on my finger. The Fingermate comes up much higher than I was first shown when I picked out my setting.
To add to my hesitation, I went to pick up my custom wedding band (a half-style eternity band) and it wasn’t at all what I wanted. They have to accomodate the Fingermate, so they’re 2 fewer diamonds on the band than what we discussed and it was very spaced out and not delicate at all. They’re working on fixing it now, but it’s started me wondering if I was going to be able to achieve the look I want.
Neither the e-ring nor the new band are refundable since they’re both custom and I’m worried I’m going to be stuck with something I’m just not happy with. We don’t have unlimited amount of cash to just buy another setting. We’ve never gone the custom route, so this is all very new. Has anyone been through this design process and can help assure me it’s all going to turn out all right? Please share your stories!
I have attached a pic of the setting from the Scott Kay page. (It has a round stone in the pic, but mine is cushion). I have also attached a pic that is similiar to what my wedding band should look like. Sorry they’re so huge!
