Nervous about telling my boss – help!

@FruitBasket:  First of all, congrats!

Since you have proven  to your boss that you are a strong, dedicated, and effective as a worker (before your MS kicked in), I think it’ll all be fine. There’s a specific and legitimate reason for your recent performance and once that is explained, I doubt your boss would be unsympathetic.

I would be really honest and direct with her- Say that you have felt really badly that your work has not been up to your usual standards lately, but the first trimester has been especially taxing on you physically. Make it clear that you will be back in full form in a couple of weeks, once you reach your second trimester.

In the meeting, you need to project confidence and assure her that you love your job, you are dedicated to your job, and you intend on staying a strong part of the team.
